I reached out to Academy Mortgage and got in contact with Mary Navarro. I was under contract already and working with a different LO but I wanted a second option incase I wasn’t able to secure financing through them. After being on a call for over 45 minutes, she basically told me that the only way I would get approved for my loan was to sell back BOTH of my vehicles and pay off ALL my CC debt (4k). She said “that’s they only way, there is no way around it, you might as well consider that loan dead”I paid off some CC debt but just decided to stick with my original LO. (My original LO never asked me to get rid of my vehicles or to pay off ALL of my debt) And like most people, I couldn’t just afford to get rid of both vehicles and left without any kind of transportation.Let me tell you, THANK GOD I didn’t listen to Mary, me and my partner would have been left without a vehicle. As first time home buyers we need to be careful and not always believe that all people are looking out for our best interest.PEOPLE- I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, PLEASE GET ATLEAST 2-3 DIFFERENT OPINIONS. Good Evening everyone; I just wanted to share my personnel experience working with Michael Pena at Academy Mortgage: Michael worked really hard with me in getting my home loan qualified and approved as a Veteran even though I so called qualify because of my statues that isnt always the case, my credit score took a major negative hit some years back because of a bitter and painful divorce that I had gone through and I thought that I would never see the light of day, at the time I was living in a mobile home which was depreciating a lot faster then my truck was, especially during the freeze last Feb. 2021. The realtor that Michael knew was able to find a buyer yet for it and in good faith I sold it before I was even close to signing on a new home Michael knew my situation I was in pretty much close to homeless with 2 children by my side and a new job in Austin that I had just started 2 weeks before I sold my mobile home Michael worked quickly and was able to get me into a home that I had choose to purchase, he made the call and gave me access to live in the home before my closing papers were signed, thats how confident Michael was and is, that I would be able to be approved for the loan regardless of all obstacles that were in my way, Michael was able to show me the way to get things done and what I needed to do to make this dream home a reality, I thank God for putting Michael in my path, God closes one door and opens another, by using Michael and his company Academy Mortgage it has been a blessing and I highly recommend using a little faith trusting God and using Michael at Academy Mortgage to anyone who may see things too difficult to dream a better life for ones self and family, take care and God bless.

I have purchased multiple homes (5+) and have never gone through the incompetence that Academy demonstrated throughout the process DEC 2020. On multiple levels, each person I interacted with at Academy (Loan Officers, Loan Officer Manager, and Loan Processor) fell short of professionalism, execution, follow up, and customer service. I had to call Academy to get any updates, with sometimes having to wait more than a day or proactively initiate a second follow up to get any answers. Due to the incompetence, we nearly lost our home due to the 4 extensions that were from the negligence/apathy of Academy’s staff. I would never recommend Academy to anyone, not even an enemy. There are so many other great Mortgage organizations that can provide a true 5 star rating with less stress, I truly question the authenticity of the reviews. You will be disappointed on almost every facet.

The only complaint we have is that we were under the impression that only my husband and not myself to had to sign anything on closing day. When My husband went to sign The title office told him that I would also need to sign. Fortunately, we have a close friend in our home town that was a notary so it didn’t end up being an issue. Michael Pena was awesome, kept in contact with us the whole time and did what needed to be done to close as fast as possible.

Academy Mortgage was totally different than any other mortgage company that we hade dealt with. When our realtor had recommended Academy from the very first call to the close they made the purchase of buying a home a great experience. Lori Schmitt and her team kept us updated through the whole process and helped us understand everything. Lori even came to us ( 35 miles ) to go over our contract and for us to sign paper work. Great company to work with these is my third home I have purchased and never hade it done these easy.

Checked in regularly on every step of the process. Hector and his team provided us with information on what step we were on, what we needed in order to stay on track and ensured we were timely on our paperwork to stay on schedule.

I will never do business again with Academy Mortgage, and will actively recommend against them to my friends and network.Academy Mortgages main issue was their communication. They were non-responsive, evasive, or misleading in their communication. Additionally they waited until the very last minute (when it was already believed that closing would be on time) to inform the parties that the deal would not close and this resulted in the close to be rescheduled 4 different times. I speak not just for myself but echo the sentiment of: the sellers, sellers agent, buyers agent, title company, and prospective tenants. Their poor communication nearly caused the deal to fall through on multiple occasions.If you would like to save yourself weeks of stress, frustration, and high blood pressure, I would go with Any Other Lender.

No response after no response. When I finally get a response its all CYA and disclaimers to why she couldnt do her job. I spent (wasted) 3 months of my life finding a new home for my family with her preapproval, and ended up not getting approved because of her oversight. With a wave of the hand she said bye bye. Now Ill be homeless in a week and starting from scratch to find a place to live. Thats really great customer service Academy!

Ashleigh Morris was a great help to me when others were difficult as not wanting to do the calculations for my income. After contacting a loan officer in August 2015 my dreams of being a homeowner were crushed. I was told to fix my credit and let them know when I was ready. I reached out to Mark on a Saturday thinking I would just leave a message but he actually answered. After submitting my paperwork on Monday, I was in his office on Tuesday.
