My honest opinion is that there are better places to live for around the same price. Its an old building, you have to pay for laundry, the wifi barely worked and if it did it was super slow, the locks on the doors to the building werent always locked so I never really felt safe, our room flooded multiple times due to leaks in the ceiling, the building over all is dirty and smells pretty bad, the fire alarm goes off twice a week or more even at 2:00 in the morning. Its not awful if its the only choice you have, if youre stuck living here some pros are that the students and RAs are really nice and the rooms are really big, and its close to the cafe and the 15-20 minuet walk to campus isnt bad at all. I recommend bringing a lot of decorations so it doesnt feel like a prison:)
***LONG AND DETAILED REVIEW BELOW***Living on campus at a University will always have ups and downs, youre going to have to sacrifice some things for others, and deal with a lot of stuff (which is how it is at every dorm at every University.)Chisholm Hall Pros: I live in a single deluxe room and it is HUGE. I have a queen sized bed, my own bathroom, and enough room to have over guests without feeling claustrophobic. The room comes with the bed, headboard, dresser, night stand and a long desk (with 6 drawers) that is mounted into the wall. (I will attach photos). You are able to keep a fridge and a microwave and a toaster oven in your dorm as well, which makes snacking/easy cooking really convenient. There is a lot of storage, I have two closets, 4 drawers and 4 cabinets in the bathroom area, a 5-drawer dresser, 2 drawer night stand a 6 drawers in my desk. The water in the shower can get super hot, and the Air Conditioning is fabulous. It also has a window alongside the far wall, so natural lighting is a must here, too. If youre looking for somewhere thats like an apartment but is on campus, I would live at Chisholm Hall 100%. If your parents are paying and youre not forced to have a roommate: Live at Chisholm Hall. The Resident Assistants are FABULOUS (especially Isaiah) and will help with literally whatever you need, they also put on events in the Activity Center weekly. I had my boyfriend over a lot which was nice, just because I didnt have to worry about asking permission from roommates, etc.Chisholm Hall Cons: Yes, the fire alarm goes off. Its not a malfunctioning fire alarm, its just super sensitive so the people in Chisholm who smoke and arent very courteous of the people around them do set off the fire alarm. Honestly, it doesnt happen as often as the reviews say, but yes it does happen. (IDK about getting fined for not leaving your room, Ive never done that honestly.) Another con Is having to walk down to the kitchen to cook more fancy stuff, if youre into that. Only because you have to lug all your stuff down there, but thats not a function of Chisholm its just how it is. The exterior of Chisholm is ugly and feels like a jail, but the potential that the rooms have are unlimited, so I wouldnt let that alone be a deterrent. People complain a lot about the wifi at Chisholm, and I personally havent had any trouble but if it gets really bad you can just buy like a $20 router and have your own wifi, the people here just complain a lot. It also sucks that you have to buy a meal plan, because the cafe honestly sucks and is not very accommodating for people who dont like to eat junk food everyday. Another annoying thing is how thin the walls are, you can hear people outside your dorm room if theyre loud enough.OVERALL: Chisholm Hall doesnt totally suck. Comparing it to the other dorms on campus: Chaparral Village--You have to have 3 other roommates, share a bathroom with one of them, and have a tiny room and a twin sized bed (but its cheaper). Alvarez--You can get your own bedroom but share a bathroom, but the bedroom isnt nearly as big. University Oaks--Basically apartment complexes on campus, youd need roommates for them too.If you dont want a roommate, live at Chisholm. If having a big bedroom/queen sized bed/your own bathroom is important to you live at Chisholm. If your financial aid is paying for your dorm room, I would live at Chisholm. If you do, dont live on the first floor, though.Make sure that you look at all of your options though, because you could get an apartment nearby for the same amount or cheaper, honestly though living at Chisholm and walking to campus every day has helped a lot with the transition. If I had to do all this over again, I probably would have just gotten an apartment nearby, BUT I honestly dont regret living at Chisholm.
The RAs are good people but overall the place is overpriced and not worth it to live on campus. I have six reasons why:1. The fire alarm is off at certain times and most times is a false alarm. Needs to be fixed in the future!2. Maintenance needs to fix any issues such as the lights, windows, rodents, and other needs in the room. Which that never happened when I had a crack through my window.3. The rooms are not worth it and needs to be deeply cleaned before the new year starts. I saw a roach when I moved in and had to clean up.4. I got charged a cleaning fee of $32 and I cleaned up the room myself before moving out and I checked everything.5. The doors of the building are not that great, one side of building is left open 24/7 and it’s broken.6. Lastly, you have to pay $2.00 to wash and dry your clothes in the laundry room and you have to be really careful when putting loads. For incoming freshmen or first year students, I do not recommend living at Chisholm hall! Live at other dorms on campus.
Chisholm is a great place to live. Ive been here for a year and havent had any problems. Its is an old building but the sense of community and RAs make it worth while. The rooms are HUGE and I have a queen sized bed thats very comfortable. And they have private bathrooms as well. The cable is good too. A pose to some of the reviews here that simply arent true, like the bed bugs and fire alarms, i enjoy living here. If simple place to live that doesnt break the bank this is definitely the place to stay
While the place may have crazy going-ons (i.e. the rare fire alarm and residents always out and about) Chisholm Hall is a great place to live! The residents are super friendly and I have made many wonderful, life-long friends, including RA Lydia who always smiles and says hello when she sees me. Chisholm is, also, SUPER close to the Roadrunner Cafe making food easily accessible. The office staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful - what they dont know they will find for you! The rooms are a decent size and comfortable to live in (just make sure you know who youre living with before moving in). Living here is absolutely AMAZING!! I love it!
Honestly Chisholm Hall isnt as bad as most people make it seem. Chisholm is the oldest housing for UTSA so I understand some of the accommodations are poor. The fire alarm does frequently go off sometimes in the middle of the night but I have gotten used to that. Some entrance doors are always open and never get closed so thats, however, a safety issue. The laundry room is small and only has 3 washers and dryers that are old and break down easily for every floor but you can choose a day where people dont normally wash and wash often to not overfill them. Also it is normal for bugs to come into the building if the doors are always open (residents fault for not closing door after themselves). On the positive note the first floor RAs work their hardest to fix these accommodations. Also the rooms are big compared to other on-campus housings, it is the closest to the Roadrunner Cafe, not far from campus, and the cheapest housing as well.
The RA’s are amazing at Chisholm hall, very friendly and easy to talk to about everything. Brianna is probably my favorite :) she is always smiling and says hey to everyone she sees. The dorms are an amazing place to meet new people. Most of the friends I’ve made this year are people I probably would have never talked to without Chisholm. I love the communal kitchen and living area, it’s where we do most of our group hangs and movie nights. Overall is pretty amazing!
Chisholm Hall is the first dorm Ive stayed at, its a pretty great place to live on campus at UTSA! Its very close to the Cafe and they host a lot of events with free food and drinks! The alarm systems go off quite often but its not terribly annoying. The rooms are big and the windows allow for a lot of natural light which is a plus. My RAs on the first floor do a wonderful job of be available and providing help when needed. Overall, for the price this is a great dorm!
Honestly the environment around here in Chisholm is amazing. I was hesitant at first but my RAs made living here 1000x better. The rooms are in good condition and there’s a lot of fun activities always going on around this dorm complex. Brianna Carter is so far my favorite RA she reaches out to us a lot and is always willing to help us. She’s super outgoing and you’ll never see her without a smile.
So by reading everyones reviews, we have definitely all had different experiences. My experience here would have probably been much better if it wasnt for my crazy disgusting roommate. Try to get to know your roommate before you move in together..please. The dorms arent as clean or new as the others on campus, but its honestly NOT THAT BAD.It is what you make it and you also get what you pay for. The fire alarms are a problem, but theyre tolerable. The rooms are more spacious than others on campus, especially if you get it to yourself. The windows are huge and the view is really nice, at least where I am. But if your still not sure, just come by and take a tourALSO no matter how clean you keep your room, you will not get your deposit back. You will be charged for random things and your roommates damages
Chisholm Hall could be better, there is always dust on the floors and the laundry rooms are gross no matter how many times the RAs or I clean them. However, the few residents Ive met more than make up for it with their warm smiles and welcoming attitudes. The person who makes me feel most welcomed is RA Lydia, who always has a big smile and tries to say hi when she sees me. She always has a joke - which may not actually be funny, but she tries.
The best thing about Chisholm is my RA Brianna. She’s honestly the sweetest and so informative about resources and where things are around campus and has been super helpful! As for Chisholm itself, it’s extremely close to the roadrunner cafe and I like that the bathrooms are in the room and only me and my roommate have to share one.
Chilsholm Hall is a nice dorm hall that gives the feeling of home and family. The staff at this hall were very kind and very helpful. The rooms are very nice as well. They are spacious for dorm rooms, have two sinks for each roommate, and a private bathroom. I would say the dorm hall is a good choice when it comes to housing on a college campus. Suggestion, offer a move in check list.
My experience at Chisholm Hall was good. I honestly thought I was going to hate it because I read the reviews, but i went in with an open mind and was very happy at the end of the year. While it is the oldest dorm on campus it has been maintained and upgraded when needed. To me it offers the college experience that many look for. You share a room and bathroom with your roommate and hopefully they become a good friend. My RA was great. Jyron was always available when I needed him,he is friendly, hilarious, stood up for me, and was not afraid to act like Momma Jay to keep us on top of our grades. He is now the head RA and that can only mean that the way things are run around Chisholm are only gonna get better then they already are.Definitely a good place to live. I could walk to class and if I felt like it I could walk to La Cantera and food across 1604. Another plus is that the key card system actually works to get in to the building. So I feel safe because it actually locks unlike the gates at Chap and Laurel, which are almost always open. Plus the entrance to my room is inside so it is much cooler especially in this Texas heat.Chisholm is the cheapest on campus and from what I know they are opening San Saba which is basically the same thing as Chisholm, but way more expensive. San Saba students will get their own room but I would not suggest this to people who are coming to college the first time or people who want the full college experience because it limits everything! While at Chisholm about 95% of the doors where open and EVERYONE was like a family except for the ones who did not care about college and where gone second semester anyway. In all I want to say thank you to Chisholm hall, and to my amazing RA for making my first year amazing! And knowing my RA is going to be the head RA next year I know he will not settle for less then amazing. I hope your student houses at Chisholm, he or she will by far have the best time of their life.
I stayed here my freshman year as a “budget friendly “ option and if you are on any other floor than the first you are likely to have an awful time. I would rather do guad or chap. There is mold here due to poor ventilation and the fire alarms are very true.
If I could give this place 0 stars I definitely would. I stayed here for my Freshman year and it was the worst experience I’ve ever had. The fire alarm would go off for no reason, and it would be at 2am or 6am sometimes. There is only one kitchen in the whole building and it is filthy. The WiFi is not password protected and anyone can get on it. Which made the signal very weak. When you get into the room the floor and sinks are dirty already. Even though I noted all of this when I first moved in, I was still fined for the room being dirty despite cleaning it to the best of my ability. The rooms use actual keys which can be easily lost instead of using your school ID like all other dorms. When you lose your key you have to pay them $50 to give you a new one. The payment system for this dorm is not connected to the school so you have to manually make the payments every month. They only have two washers and dryers and you have to pay $1.00 for each load in the washer and each load in the dryer. The front of the building turns into a lake when it rains. There are trees and shrubbery around the front with very little light, which makes it dangerous trying to get from your car to the door. The building has cameras for show in the halls but I strongly doubt they actually work. Multiple times people’s things were stolen from the dryers and there was hardly anything done. The best part about this building is the option to have your own room with a queen bed to yourself along with two closest spaces. Having your own room to yourself is not worth the nightmare you will endure here.
One star is too much. This place is horrific. The place looks run down and dirty, and in reality it is. The floors are not clean. No matter how hard you scrub the dirty look will not come off because the owners just wax over the dirty floor (you can literally see the hair under the wax). The community kitchen is disgusting. There is someone designated to clean the general areas (community kitchen, hallways, etc.) but she does not do a good job. The community kitchen has a pile of garbage everyday, smells terrible, and is infested with roaches! The fire alarm goes off very often, roughly 10-15 times a month; sometimes twice in one day. There are always problems with hot water, and the AC. The RA staff is unfriendly and rude. Ive had several of my packages sent back because the front office said I did not live here. Honestly, youll do better getting an off campus apartment cause this place is a total rip off. University Oaks and Chisholm hall are ran by the same people so stay away from both! Do yourself a favor and do not live here!!!
Terrible and greedy management! Charged me over $200 for some missing paint and slightly dirty toilet. Cleaned the hell out of that toilet before I left in 2020 because of the Pandemic, apparently it has to look brand new even though the rooms do NOT! The rooms are tiny and cold and the halls echo so bad, good luck trying to fall asleep from all the screaming college kids running up and down the halls. Oh and the walls are incredibly thin, so if you live next to couples on either side, have fun hearing banging on the walls every night.
Chisholm hall was the lowest cost on campus so I lived there last year. It wasnt the best when I first moved in, but they have made a lot of renovations. They also made the price lower. Its a traditional dorm and thats why I like it there are free events and activities all the time. Im living there next year too.
I share a room with someone. The room is a decent size, but you do need to adjust to sharing one room. Aside from that Id say its too overpriced ($399.00 for a 12 month lease) for the quality. The room comes with a twin bed, a lamp, a dresser and a nightstand. Theres always some trash on the stairways, each floor has only one laundry room, it would be nice if there were a water fountain on each floor, but theres only one on the first floor. The fire alarm goes off once or twice a month in the middle of the night which is inconvenient to say the least. Also, entrances into the dorm halls are usually unlocked 24/7 from my experience. I mean I dont even need my card to get in most of the time. There is a vending machine on the first floor that sells Dr Pepper so thats a plus.
Chisholm is a great community and it is a great place to go and hang out with friends. Veronica, the first floor RA, does a wonderful job and will go out of her way to help out any of her residents to make sure they are taken off. Overall it’s a great place and definitely would recommend.
Chisholm Hall has been great since Ive lived here. There is a great sense of community and that makes it easy to make new friends. Its also close to the café for any meal. The indoor pool is nice and its great for exercise. My favorite part would have to be spending time in the Activity Center though. Whether its for a program or just watching the astros, its always a good time.
Chisholm hall is not reliable at answering their phone. Of the times that I have called, they have answered about a third of the times. The stairways are poorly maintained, they are very frequently smelly and dirty from litter and stains. My roomates bunk bed had mold on it. The ceilings, panels, and floor, (which is bumpy in several places) have had visible damage since the room was assigned. Bad things aside, the RAs are awesome and I appreciate the effort that they make to entertain and educate dorm residents.
In our first week, we had a water leak under the sink, there is no ventilation in the bathroom making it highly susceptible to mold, there is indication our door has been kicked in as it is split near the lock, the lock cannot be secured with screws because the split widens and further compromises the integrity of the door. The floors are dirty and scratched as is the furniture, our ceiling has water damage. The best part about the rooms is the size, they are larger than I expected.
I HATE this place!!! I would give 0 stars if possible! The rooms are small and the RAs arent helpful. There are so many problems for example every time I need or try to contact the office I call and they have me waiting a couple of minutes and the call just drops. And by reading everyones reviews, we have definitely all had about the experiences. The dorms arent clean or new as the others on campus, and looks nothing like the show rooms so dont be fooled the show rooms are bigger than the actual rooms that get rented out. The fire alarms are a problem, they go off at all hours of the day about 4 times a week. ALSO make sure to write all damages markings etc. no matter how small. I lived in the 4th floor for a while but had to move because my room kept leaking even if it just drizzled outside it would get into my room. And no RAs offered help or some kind of compensation even though my stuff got damaged due to the leaks. Also the bathrooms have horrible ventilation so get ready for mildew, and also theres a roach problem and i clean my room twice a week(I sweep and mop) as well as throw out trash 2 times per week, I never leave food out but somehow we still have roaches. OH and the WIFI drops about 1-2 hours daily, and when its working it extremely slow. You also have to pay for laundry, and the pool is almost always occupied by swim teams so also get ready to have little kids running around through out the day.DONT do this to yourself or kids. This is the WORST place to live.
Great RAs, but they dont make up for the fact that this is a terrible place to live. The fire alarm goes off at every hour of the night and the hallways always smell like weed. Not to mention the fact that there is a hot water problem and Chisholm has a bed bug problem and tried to make my roommate and I pay for all of it.
My experience staying herein Chisholm hall is pretty good. Here is a more detailed description if you want to compare the goods and bads of staying here.Pros: close to roadrunner cafe, nice friendly environment, cheap compared to other residence halls, big space in rooms, okay WiFi, you can control your own room temperature, room is a good place to do hw if you don’t feel like leaving your room, you get used to the fire alarms (at least I did)Cons: frequent fire alarms, most far away to classes compared to other residence halls, old building, bugs can go inside building when people don’t close the doors, thin walls so you can easily hear your neighbors, people can be dirty and won’t clean their mess in the kitchen or laundry room
Coming from a 2015-2016 Freshman Resident (VERY descriptive): I always tell people the same thing, I dont hate living here- I tolerate living here.... Would I go again for round 2? Absolutely not. They wont put you in the room you asked for, so dont expect it. Not everything will be perfect! (like some lights, the chair they gave me, knob on furniture, small stuff, etc.). Remember, depends on the previous resident too. Community kitchen: Please do not use it on weekends, since the workers arent here on those two days and college kids are lazy to clean their mess. But it should be OK on the weekdays... OK. The RAs try to make events, so the amount of people you meet here depends on you. I know that the RAs at other places just invite their residents to UTSA-oriented events, but the ones at Chisholm actually make their events. My actual room wasnt so bad. We have a mildew problem in our bathroom due to the humidity of the shower. It basically looks like little black mold dots on the upper part of our walls- but the administration guy was completely offended when I said black mold and corrected it as mildew... still a fungi but whatever, still gross. A popular topic would be the fire alarms. Its a combination of very stupid people and VERY delicate sensors. So just make sure you go away from CH if you really need to smoke. Fun fact: Ive actually woke up at 3 am on a school night just to exit the building:))))))))))). There wasnt much of a bug problem in my ROOM, but the kitchen is another story. The WIFI will act stupid too, especially Sunday nights whenever people come back from their homes.NOW TO THE GOOD PART- So the room itself is very spacious compared to other places! You can put whatever temperature you want. I know at this other on-campus housing, they actually regulate the A/C but you can have the room in the 40s/50s at CH if you really like it that cold. Something that I really liked about this place was when I first moved in. I wanted to really use the kitchen, since I didnt have a meal plan (oh yeah, at other places they MAKE you buy a meal plan). I was on the third floor too! I would carry a whole 40 pound cooler with pots and food everyday to cook. This lasted for maybe 2 weeks so I POLITELY asked the office if they could move me to the first floor, and luckily, they had an available room! So make sure if you have a problem with your room, talk with them early and hope they can accommodate you. I would suggest a furnished room than an unfurnished (it was like 40 more dollars a month). I doubt their whole roommate-matching thing works.. I met my first roommate and he was nothing like me. Complete clean-freak. Awkward conversations. But since they moved me to the first floor, my new roommate was way better. Hes a great guy:) Your experience living here depends a lot on your roommate. Of course youll hate a place that you dont feel comfortable in.WHAT DO I PERSONALLY SUGGEST?Ive met other people living off-campus and I still cringe about how much Ive missed out. Theyre only paying a couple dollars more for a place with more amenities, actual private rooms, bigger space, etc. So if you have the choice, please look into places like High View Place Apartments. They have shuttles so it takes about 10-15 min for that drive, and it usually takes me 10-15 min to WALK to class/library from CH. NOW if your parents are only letting you stay on-campus, I guess I would recommend CH..eh. The other on-campus places are ridiculously over-priced. Whatever you choose, I hope I helped! I wish I knew these things before I moved in:)
WiFi here is pathetic even the CAT5 cuts out. I have to log back in every single day...upgrade is way overdue. I have the single-deluxe room. It is far more roomy than I expected, but the linoleum floors are so outdated. I came from UIW in my undergrad days and all of their dorms (even the ones built back in the 50s have carpeting). Carpet squares are easy to install, inexpensive and will help with the noise issues (it sounds like Im living in a cavern). My RAs are very friendly. My biggest issues, aside from the network connectivity, is that the front stairwell, where housekeeping takes out the trash is filthy. Leakage from the garbage bags has made a smelly mess of the stairwell that has yet to get cleaned up from day one. The hallway lighting needs to be changed, many of them are dead or dying. And finally, Im not a youngun anymore, there is no elevator in this building. If you have difficulty getting up stairs, choose the bottom floor. I have some heavy gear and it would have been nearly impossible to get it all upstairs had it not been for the great students here helping me. Overall, it could be worse for a building that is as old as me.
Chisholm is a great place to stay at theres always weekly activities to get involved and make lots of friends, the environment is peaceful and friendly. RA Brianna is really nice and has made my stay here pleasant if I have a problem I know I can go to her for anything!
Currently a resident here. The RAs are super duper nice and friendly. They make you feel at home. Sure its an ol building but thats what i like about it to be honest. The room is bigger and has more space than I know what to do with. The only negative thing I have to say about this complex is the very sensitive alarm, as it goes off rather frequently, maybe 3 times a month usually. Other than that, Five stars!
WiFi? Whats that? Not to mention the 20 fire alarms in one year. This is the worst place to live, the staff was uncooperative and did not write down maintenance reports. They tried to charge my roommate for their disgustingly cheap chair that broke. Thats usually not a problem if you dont put in a maintenance request before room checks. However, my roommate put in FOUR requests PRIOR to room checks and they said they did not write any of them down and tried to change her. The front office is never open on time and all they care about is if you release with them or not. It doesnt have a community feel, because the RAs stop talking to their residents after the first two weeks. The only good thing that has come out of this year is a friendship with my roommate. The disgusting, dungeon-like dorm aided in making our friendship stronger because it gave us something to complain to each other about. Do yourself a HUGE favor and NEVER stay here.
My daughter moved in, having received NO notice that ALL classes had been moved online. We did not know she had another roommate assigned until she moved in, since her first roommate canceled, even though they assured us they would let us know. Theres no way to get out of the lease despite the closure of the campus, and theyve popped us for late fees even though we set up the automatic payments through our bank. This place is a disaster, and I strongly encourage parents to avoid it for their students.
The RAs are cool. But if you dont have a meal plan and you want to cook for yourself be prepared to actually starve. You will literally walk into a kitchen that smells like vomit and has roaches crawling all over an overflowing mound of trash that sits there for a week or 2 before someone actually cleans it. And if you are going to cook clean up after yourself!!!!!! Be considerate of other people its a community kitchen other students cook there. And if you dont actually know how to cook dont bother even going on the kitchen and stick to a meal plan because the fire alarms go off daily because someone doesnt know how to operate a microwave or boil water. As far as the rooms they have a smell that you cant get rid of and the restroom was filthy when I first moved in.
Chisholm is pretty affordable. It isn’ t the best housing on campus but, the RA on the third floor makes life so much easier. Lydia, the 3rd floor’s RA, is so sweet and kind and will go out of her way to help in anyway she can.
Third floor RA Lydia is literally the only thing I like about Chisholm hall. She makes the constantly open door and the fire alarms at random time worth while. She can always be counted on to lend an ear and respond appropriately. Others come off as unapproachable but Lydia mange’s to overcome this boundary by genuinely caring about the residents!
I had seen reviews of this place before I made a decision to move in. The fire alarms I can forgive. The overall presentation of the building and its interior I can forgive. The horrendously bad internet speeds, I can forgive. One major issue is that aside from the front (and possibly back?) entrance, all the automatic locks do not function, and anyone can enter. The RAs I have met were all great people and accommodating to needs. The residents are all more or less awesome as well. The nail in the coffin, and the reason the rating is as low as it is, is that late fees will NOT be waived, no matter the circumstance. Not only did I attempt to contact a week prior to the payment and explain why I was going to be late, it appears that the email went ignored. No attempt whatsoever to negotiate. It took me calling the office of the person who manages payments to find this out, after the late fee was added on. This made me have to humbly ask to borrow money from my family, which I loathe doing on moral grounds. So remember that if youre in a bind, youre also not going to get any compassion for it.
Living here at Chisholm hall has been a great experience, and great opportunity to meet new people and make life long friends that I never thought of making. Out of all the housing here on campus I would have to say Chisholm hall has the strongest community than others.
If anyone is looking for a good place to live please give second thoughts about living here. I moved into a single deluxe room, and with the amount of money I put in EVERY month doesnt amount to the quality that the room has. The internet is a nightmare. There have been times where I want to tear my hair out because it goes down for ~30min-1hr, and this would be understandable if it was once a month or something but every day is no excuse. Id much rather have moved into Alvarez or an apartment close by, or simply sleep outside with the bed I have in the dorm because thats what it feels like Im paying for.
The hallways, stairs, and laundry room (so pretty much the whole building) are frequently filled with garbage. Janitorial services sometimes cleaned once a month or at least noticeably cleaned areas. Not to mention as a first year student the physical dorm was terrible windows would leak after rain, ants would come in the room, lights frequently didnt work, ac went out for long periods of time, furniture was rickety, mildew in the shower from horrible ventilation. Also there were rumors among occupants that there were bedbugs in some dorms.
Honestly the RA’s and the office staff are great but the building looks nothing like it’s pictured online. The fire alarm constantly goes off in the middle of the night the community litchis always a mess, the internet constantly goes out, I put in a Maintenance request twice that was never attended to. Honestly it’s okay if you need somewhere cheap to live close to campus but if you can I would not lease here.
The RAs are cool and the people who live there are pretty great. Fire alarms go off way too often and there are bugs all over. Its for you if you need to save money
All the 5 star reviews were forced as part of a review for candy type thing worst academic semester there pick a different dorm.Edit: Upon trying to resolve an issue which arose from them saying my floors were dirty from me and not their lack of maintenance on the dorms I received a letter from them demanding I pay $50 or it will go to a collection agency. Get a University owned dorm as these people are scam artists.
This place is the worst. The only plus is the big room and in-room bathroom. Every other thing that you think could go wrong WILL GO WRONG. Fire alarm goes off once or twice a week, mostly in the middle of the night. You will be living off of LTE because WiFi on phones never work. You have to pay for laundry and the laundry machines are usually broken or flooded. The place looks like an asylum and the walls are paper thin. The fourth floor(where I stayed) leaked throughout the year, destroying my new rented text books. I suggest spending the extra money and love anywhere else. Take our word for it. Would give it zero stars if I could
The rooms are spacious even though it sleeps 3 you still have plenty of room
I have lived at Chisholm for two and a half years now. It has always felt like home since I moved from Houston. I am able to meet new people and make many memories with them. Plus in not far from campus so I am able to go back and forth between main campus and the dorms when I need to. Thank you to all who try so hard to make it feel like home.
Upon arriving, I was immediately impressed by the friendly staff. Jyron was very informative and helped answer all my questions I had about the hall. The building is one of the older of the dorms, but the rooms are spacious. It is conveniently located not too close, but not too far from the campus buildings. I can definitely see myself living here!
Im taking the time out of my night to write this review to inform you that this place is terrible. That should tell you how bad this place is. But if you need further persuasion, the rooms are dirty, you might get bed bugs, the fire alarm might go off in the middle of the night, the pool is open 24/7, the wifi is terrible, and they charge you a fee when you move out cause the room is dirty... The RAs are cool though
Chisholm is love. Chisholm is life. Your experience here is what you make it. The staff here really try their best to make sure everything is fine.If you want to live on campus, this is the place to be a part of a community that you will remember for a lifetime. I would give Chisholm 100 stars if I could!
If you LOVE wifi that goes out intermittently on a daily basis, halls that smell like vomit and overcooked vegetables, chipped walls, floors that are constantly dirty, flooded stairwells, shower drains that clog multiple times per year, shoddy AC systems, locks that open with almost any room key, back problems from trashed decade-old mattresses, a lack of electrical outlets, walls about the thickness of cardboard, raw sewage on your way to class, and fire alarms going off multiple times per month, then THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! The only halfway decent parts about this place are that the rooms are relatively large and that its close to the cafe (but not very close to your classes). I hear a lot of complaints about the oaks too, so dont go to either of those places - the housing that is actually controlled by UTSA (Chap, Laurel, and San Saba/Alvarez (new name)) is the only stuff that will be worth your money, even if its slightly more expensive. Please believe me.
Awful management...like seriously. Smell awful. IF you want love the smell of vomit and the smell of paint mix together, then this is the place. The only good thing about this place is the RA. Theyre really great. but honestly....GET AN APARTMENT!!!! They always There are so many ways to make friends at UTSA you dont need to stay at this ratchet ass place
Im on the first floor and its pretty cool being here. Alarm goes off every now and then but Id prefer to know Im going to be safe than a disaster happening either. RA Jules is awesome and really funny (like sarcastic, dry humor) and is really helpful. Helped me with homework a few times.
Chisholm is pretty cool. Lots of programs and free stuff. RA Jules cooked food for one of the programs from the Caribbean with Mexican stuff. Everything tasted good. maintenance problems come up sometimes. They tend to fix it. Pretty cheap. I stan
Honestly, dont live here unless you have to. Its the cheapest dorm on campus for a reason. The fire alarms repeatedly go off, the wifi is almost never working, washer & dryers break and take forever to get fixed, theres mold on the windows, ceiling tiles are falling off, etc.
It’s alright I lived On the fourth floor had 0 pest problems besides that it’s a cheap rate. The fire alarms do go off but after a while it becomes whatever. The staff was always nice to me when I had A problem and tried to fix it.
The Ras are amazing here. They are so caring and helpful. I also love that packages can be sent here instead of me having to get my own PO box. The room have a lot of space, so many ways to set it up.
I wish I could give this place 0 stars. This is the only prison cell you have to pay rent for. On top of a lackluster room, the workers also flooded our room twice this year while doing maintenance on our toilet that never worked all school year. Instead of contacting us or replacing our damaged items they tried to charge for damages and cleaning. DO NOT LIVE HERE
I think Chisholm hall is decent place to live, its affordable, close to campus and cafe, and it offers great programs for the residents, I really like ra especially the 4th floor ra victor and andrew they are very friendly
Chisholm Hall is like a small community. The RAs have different programs/events and its just fun! My RA Brianna is great!
I give chisholm hall 5 stars because I can afford to live here and the RA are pretty nice, only issue is fire alarms but there not too bad, I really like my ra victor cool guy and helps me alot
Chisholm Hall is the best place on campus to make new friends. The RAs are a great group of people that will make the experience even better.
Chisholm fixed all issues I had here and were really helpful. The fire alarms may go off, but it is worth while to live here. Cheap and spacey room! Love it here :)
This place is absolutely terrible. Theres fungus growing on the walls. Its always messy in the hallways and on the stairs. Theres constant fire alarms and it smells horrid at times. Do not live here. I terminated my lease and they charged me almost 800 dollars. Its not worth any money at all.
Chisholms rooms are a great size for their prize and its super close to the roadrunner cafe. The RAs and staff are super helpful and kind too.
I am new to the area transferring to UTSA. I was told to check out Chisolm Hall and was impressed by the staff. I felt welcomed and seeing as I know no one in the area that was a big deal to me. The campus atmosphere was great and really made me feel comfortable. Thank you Chisolm.
Do not bother living here. It is the worst experience. It smells 24/7, the fire alarms go off every few days. Too expensive for the quality of living, very dirty and old building.
Chisholm is really not too expensive, its really close to utsa and has wonderful ra , my favorite ra is victor from the fourth floor we both like anime
Wifi is absolutely terrible since the same company has a wifi division and thought itd be a good idea to give itself business, Management is disrespectful and nearly non existant, get ready for inspections, because one of the resident advisors will expect you to have your dishes spotless and laundry folded and put away, the resident swimming pool is leased out to swim teams at nearly everypoint of the weekday so dont let the you can go anytime fool you, the rooms have fruit flies, moths, Cockroaches, and crickets(and thats because I didnt have food) value your sleep? Fire alarms go off regularly in the middle of the night, ^Spoiler alert^ you have to pay for a parking permit and a meal plan(the cheapest meal plan is 1300) the only appliance you can have is a microwave, the nearest dumpster for your trash is from another dorm(not even kidding) oh but they gave free donuts one day so thats a plus
The RA really attempt to bring the residents together. Even though there are few problems with fire alarms, the community makes up for it as long as youre willing to meet new people
I am currently getting my things together to move into my dorm here at Chisholm Hall, and am eager to experience this new chapter of my life in what Ive been told is a great dorm for people new to the college.
This place is awful if I could give it zero stars I would. The people in charge have horrible service and are always grouchy. The price is crazy for the quality. It is always dirty and smells awful 24/7.Please do yourself or your kid a favor and do not lease from here. Its a horrible place to stay!!
Chisholm is amazing! I love the Resident Assistants! I order so many packages and they are all so nice in assisting me!
The rooms are very roomy and big, but when deciding if you want to live here the fire alarms constantly go off which can be really annoying.
BRI IS MY FAVORITE RA she helps out a lot around the place and is always trying to have a good relationship with the residents.
The RAs made my time here the best! Only down side was there was always false fire alarms in the building.
I love chisholm hall, the ra are really helpful and they are very nice my fourth floor ra victor is very funny
OMG THIS PLACE IS THE WORST THING EVER!!!! i WAS STUCK BETWEEN THIS AND OAKS AND I SAW THE REVIEWS AT OAKS AND THEY WERE PRETTY BAD AND CHISHOLM HAD NO REVIEWS SO IM HELPING YOU GUYS DO NOT, I MEAN DO NOT COME HERE...THEY WONT LET YOU BREAK THE LEASE WITHOUT LEAVING THE UNIVERSITY...THE HALLS STINK ARE NOISY AND ITS A RAGEDY PLACE IN GENERAL. THE AC BROKE, SHOWERS WERE MILDEWED AND EVERY SINGLE ROOMS BLINDS ARE JACKED UP. IM INFURIATED AT THE FACT THAT THIS PRISON WILL NOT LET YOU LEAVE TO ANOTHER PLACE AND DISGUSTED WITH THIS WHOLE EXPERIENCE! DONT DO IT TO YOURSELVES TRUST ME.
I have lived here for two years. Great community, big rooms, and I made a lot of friends while staying here!
Worst place to live at in UTSA. Its absolutely awful. I cant even think of anything good about this place, I regret ever coming here. Please do me a favor and NEVER COME HERE.
Uncooperative! I had bugs in my dorm and had to practically harass office staff before anyone came to look at the infestation! Do not live here!
Nice people, old dorm. I like it though b/c they offer single dorms.
An amazing community to meet friends that can become your family. Love this dormitory.
Big waste of money. Fire alarms at 3am and leaks in dorms. Stay away...I promise youll find better.
Terrible place to stay. They charged me $15 for having damages to a dresser when I didnt even have a dresser in my room.
At Chisholm hall you are able to make a bunch friends and thereis a great sense of community
PROS:Best AC I have ever experiencedCONS:Internet was spotty and usually slowLiving with other humans sucks
Great place to live, really close on campus and has a great community
Honestly was excepting worst here but it’s honestly been good! Love it here!
I really like living here because of how helpful the staff are plus prices are really reasonable
I love the single room, the Ras are ight
I love Chisholm, great people and good environment!!!!
It is a cool place I made a lot of new friends
Pretty cool. Free slushie. Loud neighbors.
Worst living facility ever . PLEASE DO NOTMOVE IN . Worst thing you could possibly do.
Horrible living conditions and horrible business practices. Live anywhere else but here.
Great experience for my first semester of college!
Great place to start off, i was content with what i got.
Good
They gave me a free slushie.
Chisholm Hall is a home away from home!!
Worst place to live on campus!
Good price for what you get
Only go here of you want it cheap
Great sense of community.
It sucks
