Any positive review you see was solicited by management company. I was offered a discount on rent every month for leaving a positive review and so have other residents I talked with. Ever since Avan management company took over it’s been a rapid decline. And the leasing agent Karina Lara is very rude and yells at you when you follow up with unanswered emails/phone calls claiming to have more important things to do. They clearly don’t have the money to fix any of the problems with the community. Hallways are full of dents and holes and scuff marks. Missing door handles. Animal urine and feces throughout. Exterior doors that do not close. The neighborhood has even filed with the city to turn the neighborhood road private up so they can put a gate up and license plate reader cameras at the entrance due to the crime at the apartment complex. There was a murder at the complex not long ago that they tried to hide. Most residents saw the Harris county coroner van out front with all the police though. The pool has been shut down a few times due to failure to maintain and most recently they didn’t even bother telling residents that it was a hazard. I could continue to list problems, but you get the point.
In response to their reply: I have not been a resident for 5 years. Please reply back to my emails I have sent regarding many of theissues I have mentioned here. I am not inclined to have non written forms of communication since management seems to forget the problems I bring up and claim that they have never heard of them as soon as I leaveNew management has ruined this complex. They do not enforce any rules so there is dog poop everywhere including the hallways and elevators. No one leashes their dogs and leaves common areas a mess. The complex does not fix anything. There has been an elevator that has been broken for more than six months. They have replaced the locks with different locks that only work on half the doors and does not work on the garage doors that remain open 24/7. They also do not make any attempt to fix the fire alarm that will go into a test mode and go off every hour every other month. There has been a string of stolen packages in part because the new locking system on the doors dont work and the pool has been closed by the city. This complex has gone to ruin under new management. Whatever you do do not lease here.More updates: The garage has turned into a used car lot with several vehicles parked without a license plate taking up parking for other residents without being towed. Their solutions to doors not working is by propping them up with cones. Not my idea of a high security complexUpdate 3: (in case you thought things are fixed) All of these issues still persist there are still unleashed dogs everywhere, our mail (from our mailboxes and package room) was stolen over the weekend, half of the doors on the complex still do not lock (they have been like this now for multiple months) and there was a shooting on the complex last week. I have brought up my concerns to the office and the police and nothing is being done. It takes them MONTHS to fix anything if they fix anything at all. Our fence has been down since Beryl and they havent done anything to fix it or clean it up. Our water is going out every day now and when it comes back the water pressure is non-existent. I will be keeping up this review until things get fixed. This is not a luxury apartment.
Lived here for over a year and just resigned my lease cause I love it here. The management has always been nice and responsive. Recently I had to go out of town for an extended time and they were nice enough to keep an eye out for packages left at my door.I cant say enough nice things about living here. I love how big my apartment is and how close it is to my work. It is pretty close to everything honestly so an uber when I go out is cheap. I can easily meet up with friends both inside and outside the loop. Though will say the traffic can be a headache, but picked this place since I am always going the opposite way of all the traffic in the mornings and evenings.Despite it being close to 610 it is actually pretty quiet here and I am on the side of the building close to 610. It is actually a pretty quiet neighborhood and havent really seen many of cops and they seem to have put a stop to the package thieves.Anytime I have a maintenance request it gets handled promptly. And honestly most of my neighbors are really nice. When I moved in the elevators were constantly breaking, but so far in the last 10 months they have been working great and I use them twice a day to walk my dog.The parking is a bit of a pain since the spots are kinda small, but well parking is at a premium in this part of town. But the visitor parking on the top of the parking garage always has spots for guests. And they are getting really good at towing non residents out of the parts that are resident parking only so there is always a space on my floor. On a whole it is a great apartment and a great place to live. And definitely affordable given the area. There is plenty of dining and stores in the area I prefer the HEB on San Felipe and fountainview. But there is a whole foods and a Kroger nearby. I honestly dont plan on moving anytime soon since I have been so happy here.
I have genuinely loved living here, and would recommend anyone to come here and call Astor home. Liz and Luis are really great and have helped me with any issue I had.
I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the exceptional service that Liz Cruz provided me during my recent apartment search. Liz, your time, effort. and expertise were invaluable, and Im thrilled to be moving into my new apartment. You made the entire process stress free, and I appreciate the extra steps you took to ensure a smooth transition.Thank you again for the outstanding assistance.Sincerely,Sonia Barrera
10/1 Update: elevator is still out of order.guest parking is one permit per unit and to top it off they control how often you can update the permit. You CANNOT have friends over for dinner. You’ll get towed $300 to a lot near the galleria. Luxury!Mailroom gets LOOTED. They lock the gym with broke equipment but not the mailroom.—Original:This place is a joke. Two of the three elevators have been out completely for weeks since Beryl, nearly 30 days ago.The Gatewise door access app is embarrassing and such a bad experience. The garage has its share of reckless drivers that retaliate against each other later on by smashing each other’s windows which thankfully forces them to calm down and park/hide their car in the basement away from the other drivers. If you plan to use the gym, do not bother. Much equipment is broken beyond use with no communication as to when/if it will be fixed, months on end.Communication from management in general is nearly nonexistent. It’s obvious that the corporate budget allocated to this complex is abysmally small, but it would be nice to know if any of our rent or amenity payment money is actually going to fix something for once.I was going to complain about there being no autopay option for rent but maybe that’s for the best since invalid charges will get posted on your account randomly.
I really hate it’s come to this point because I don’t have many issues when it comes to this complex as a whole HOWEVER I’ve been in my apartment now without heat in DECEMBER since 2pm. It’s now 7:10 and the apartment manager is no where to be found to let maintenance know there’s an emergency issue. I’ve called the after ours number SO MANY TIMES and they’ve been so apologetic because they also don’t understand why there is no sense of urgency. This has been an ongoing issue in my unit and not the first time they’ve left me LITERALLY in the dark for hours at a time, the other times were in the Houston SUMMER.While I will come to management about any issues I have, I pride myself on being respectful and generally a low maintenance tenant but I’m so incredibly tired of this. It’s not fair I pay $1500 and have to play bingo on which appliances I can and can’t use simultaneously due to the fear I’ll be left sitting in the dark. And as I’m writing this I received a call from the after hours line saying that management doesn’t have anyone to come fix my heat so basically I’m sh!t out of luck. It’s 46 degrees tonight and they don’t give a d@mn. Needless to say I’m livid, disappointed, and won’t be renewing my lease.Edit: While there is still an issue, Liz the property manager has been a tremendous help. I appreciate all her efforts to help my situation. My issue isnt with her, its with the regional manager who directs the after hours calls.
This place is a mess. Weve had daily water outages, mostly in the mornings, for almost a month. garage has turned into a used car lot with several vehicles parked without a license plate. Dont be fooled by the cheap rent—its low for a reason. I regret signing the lease. Imagine waking up every morning with no water, even to use the restroom.
This place sucks do not move here!!! All they care about is money and violations. Gates are always broke elevator always broke ppl been getting into the garage taking people tires and popping them as well. Someone kill they self n this apt didn’t do nothing but move somebody else in didn’t make a notice or nothing to be on the safe side or even tell the community. Packages get stolen from the mailroom nothing about this apartment is luxury and i will be leaving soon.!
I was referred to this property by a long time friend who obviously understands my stance on decency and decorum in all I do. The manager was exceptionally nice, courteous, professional and above all intelligent and friendly. Things were extremely good and before i could take a deep breath the manager was gone for months and everything fell apart. I remember taking the stairways on some occasions because the elevators were not working and no individual had any explanations to give. For days and nights my air-conditioner did not work and calls to the answering service did not help me.Then came the mighty storm that kept us without water for weeks and I had to buy cases of water to flush toilet and bath. worse is that i was billed for water at a higher rate later. for once i felt the loss of my five bedroom home. I was living in apartment for the first time in my years and this experience was not making things better for me at all.I contacted my friend who referred me and she gave me the phone number to the business office of the property managers. Regrettably, none of my calls and emails were returned to date. My friend took it upon herself to call but the story was the same, no return calls from the managers came through to her either. I was at the point of breaking the lease after contacting the Houston Apartment Association, KHOU 11 and ABC 13 when one day I was on my way to work and i stumbled on the same manager who obviously was involved in a car accident that was fatal. I changed my mind because she assured me things were going to change back to normal and pleaded for some time for her to fully reintegrate. Barely few weeks of being on her seat, the fence that was destroyed by the storm has been fixed, the elevators are now working, the mailroom now has a controlled access, the cargo elevator that was forever broken now works. The gate 15 stair c- that was never closed now works. I was shocked to see that I could not enter last night without entering the code which was never the case. Of a truth, no one is indispensable but truer is the fact that some people are irreplaceable. Thank goodness for the return of the manager the property would have lost one committed resident. Shout out to the intelligent, friendly, ever smiling manager Litz at Astor
Nice peaceful place to live. Have lived here for 2 years now and will be renewing. The office staff and the manager Liz is so helpful and nice.
I lived in the Astor twice. My first experience was nice. I moved back a year later from 2022- 2023 and it was terrible. The hallways had stains on the floor and you’d often see a dead roach or two out there as well. The roaches did help you discern the last time the hallways had been vacuumed. The parking garage door was often broken which led to catalytic converters stolen off trucks and the occasional broken window. Management often does not return phone calls and they shortened their office hours, so good luck dealing with any issues with your apartment without leaving work early to go talk to them in person. They nickel and dimed my security deposit down and stopped responding to my emails about the condition of the apartment. The icing on the cake was them not logging my forwarding address. I had to call them 3 times to get the basically $50 they had dwindled the deposit down to sent over to me.I’ve attached photos of the apartment I left so filthy they needed to hire cleaners
No one cares about the noise of others makes!!I have lived here for about 3 months now and my only wish was to get I quiet spot cuz i’m a student and they recommend the worst spot ever!!!It’s 4 am now and the people who live on the right side of my apartment are making loud noise and I can’t sleep!!!And people upstairs doing the same thing!! I have complained thousands times but problem have not been solved.
Been living here for a few weeks and I love it so far. The ambience is nice and the staff is friendly.Update: I have a few complaints about leasing office ethics. When I moved in, I was told I would only have to pay $300, as stated on the application.I toured a few apartments and paid my initial deposit of $300. When I called to ask about my leasing papers (which were supposed to be emailed to me), I was very rudely told a completely different story that I put up a full months rent because of three late payments across three years at my last apartment complex. Ridiculous. The same person, Shelly, told me if I paid the full months rent as a deposit that the difference would be rebated to me on the third months rent. Lo and behold, the third month rolls around and I am getting the run around because it was verbally stated (more than 3-5 times) and not put on the official lease. On the other hand, a neighbor of mine (a very kind white lady), told me that she was excused from her pet deposit. I initially felt like this was housing discrimination (which it was), but that confirmed it. I am happy for my neighbor, but very pissed at the blatant favoritism, racism, prejudice and disrespect.I am currently a consulting as I search for new work (which their leasing office knew when they looked at the income verification) and they showed no type of sympathy, compassion or conflict resolution about the situation. Not to mention that the same person, Shelly, also lied about the application and administration fee. Not only to me, but my apartment locator as well, displaying a very negative image on the third partys (@SmartCityHTX) due diligence to their customers. If youre expecting professional service from the leasing office, this is not the place to be. During every tour and visit to the office, there was someone complaining or leaving. The staff also doesnt mind getting into screaming matches and being extremely condescending. Maintenance is also a bit subpar.A few pluses are the quietness in the neighborhood and the shops and restaurants nearby. Its a very nice neighborhood, I am just extremely disappointed in Avan Property Management for their total lack of professionalism and unwillingness to remediate the situation.I dont think this is going to change because the staff is very wolf-packy. Awkwardly enough, the staff is also never consistent. So, if you do decide to move here, get every word written in paper and Id recommend looking at the other apartments in the area first.
This apartment offers a peaceful atmosphere and high-end amenities. The high ceilings and large windows provide plenty of natural light without letting in too much direct sunlight, keeping the rooms cool. The gym and swimming pool are excellent, and there are separate rooms for Amazon parcels and regular mail. The garage is spacious, and the maintenance team is very responsive. Most importantly, the management is kind and responsive, providing residents with a lot of flexibility. Sunita and her manager are particularly attentive and quick to resolve any issues I encountered. I wouldnt leave if it werent for my work relocation.
Half their pictures are for CORTLAND apartments. They actively delete nasty pictures from residents.5 stars are probably fake reviews of owner/operator. Ever notice how they praise management staff by first name? Or how they say GREAT LOCATION, like their review is a subliminal advert for real estate buyers or renters. Nobody is buying this place. They are renting, it is obvious it is a great location, that is why anyone would ever even look here to start with, but yeah, great location, staff great. Every 5 star review just says this. Like you got reviews of the Pearly Gates with a view of heaven and 5 min flight away from all the heavenly perks and amenities. Speaking of amenities, half their pictures from long ago, ARE NOT EVEN THIS PLACE. I tried reporting to google to delete the images, and they stay up! Fake reviews, fake pictures, fake people, fake management, just a bunch of overseas fakers who are essentially taking Americans here for a ride and emptying those pockets real well for high rent. Btw, rent trends are in reverse from what I hear from real RE experts. If your rents are not lowered than last year, something aint right.Seems quite odd to praise staff so highly when the rest of reviews tell you how much this place and these managers literally stink. Trust me, just look for odors and smells of this place among other 1 star reviews. It was funny how when we the tenants left them negative reviews when this Avant management first took over the building and it is a management company run by the owners from overseas. An army of positive reviews with people who only had fake names, Spanish names, and just 1-5 reviews started popping up. Like if you are going to call up reinforcements, find competent providers who have well-established fake identities to leave these fake reviews so at least it is not obvious, there free marketing tip. I lived there and the change in management went from a 5/5 place to a 0/5 place. Clearly quite a while later, other 1 star reviews and pictures of everything not working there as of April 2024 CLEARLY speak to the very competence and capabilities of this so called management bunch who are understaffed and undertrained and do not know how to/do not want/care to do business the American way.Update: My STANDING 1/5 Star review of this place REPEATEDLY filtered by Google / and/or taken down by these people. I did once upon a time have a TON of evidence of water leaking in my unit, black mold starting out, they never believed me until the renter below my unit filed a comaint of water coming through the ceiling. They sent ARMED security x2 to my unit with literally everyone in the office to finally come and see the problem before they said this is nothing and until the neighbor below complained of dripping SEWER water of my bathtub because the floor only got wet when the drain of the tub ran not when the water tap ran. Like I was some kind of criminal asking for service....Then their maintenance guy tells me: Apartment across from my unit was a SQUATTED GROW HOUSE!!!!I should have sued you people for emotional suffering and everything else one could have thrown at yall legally. Your 80 degree apartment and 120 degree metal balcony doors in the months after you suddenly took over the place and my AC not getting fixed for weeeeeekksss resulted in serious issues for my health and eventually led to my loss of employment. This place is like a very expensive prison. The location be darned. Dont do it. Not until Avan Management changes their ways or someone else not run by the same Avan people comes in. While you are at it, look up THEIR reviews too. And their other properties. You will form a well informed opinion of who does what despite the attempts to hide the truth and deny the suffering. They also NEVER gave me a dime of my deposit backDec 24: You say my pictures are old? The giant picture on your website landing page is still from before you took over this property because the palm trees in that picture died in the winter storm of 2021. Google map confirms this.
This place really ain’t as bad as people say, seems like people want to put all of the blame of the staff, when in reality it’s the tenants. The staff ain’t your baby sitters if everyone handles their own business like grown men and women then the place would still be as nice as it was when I first moved in. We all signed a lease. You know you supposed to have your pets on a leash, you know you supposed to clean up after them but I see a lot of people don’t. The carpets are filthy because of people not being responsible with their pets or their garbage bags is leaking while taking them to the trash room. You know you ain’t supposed to be smoking inside of these apartments but you can smell weed or cigarettes as soon as you walk in the hallway after coming in from the car garage. People complaining about the water yes it kept going out because it had a faulty piece that needed to be ordered and shipped but look on the bright side during that time you still got water and electricity back here before most of Houston after Beryl. People need to start acting their age and not their shoe size and learn to clean up after themselves instead of complaining so much. Someone from the 5th or 6th floor above my apartment should not be pissing off the balcony and it landing on my balcony while my wife is sitting outside. It’s not the best place but it is no where close to being the worst. Oh FYI it’s not the apartment complex fault if your packages got stolen you need to take that up with the post office. If there is not a safe location for them to put your package then they should leave that little note telling you to come pick it up if the parcel box is not empty. Most days the post office isn’t even stopping by till around 5:30pm - 6:00pm. Once again do your part and act like adults and keep your animals and kids in check then this can be a good place for all. There are things that can be done better on both sides. If everyone does their part you wouldn’t see all the negative comments.
Astor Tanglewood Apartments: A Nightmare in DisguiseWhere do I even begin with Astor Tanglewood Apartments? Lets start with the basic amenities that never seem to work. The air conditioning? Yeah, its been broken for four months straight. So, good luck trying to survive the scorching summer heat indoors.Communication with residents is practically nonexistent. Need something fixed urgently? Dont count on management responding in a timely manner. Theyre too busy ignoring your calls and emails.Oh, and lets not forget the elevators. More often than not, theyre out of service. So, if you live on one of the higher floors, get ready for a daily workout trekking up and down those stairs.Security? Ha! What security? Packages mysteriously disappear like magic, and if you thought your car tires were safe in the parking lot, think again. They disappear faster than you can say security deposit. In conclusion, if you enjoy living in a place where basic comforts are a luxury, communication is a myth, and security is a joke, Astor Tanglewood Apartments is the perfect place for you.
Do not believe all of these fake positive reviews. Horrible place, elevators are always broken, halls smell like weed and piss, water goes off all the time, parking is a nightmare, they also have Airbnb rentals so be prepared to see guests that are. It screened like renters are. The noise, drugs and trashy people make this place absolutely
Very easy to have packages stolen here because the area is just a chair and an end table. It’s happened to me. There are package lockers but l wasn’t given access to the lockers until a package being stolen. The leasing agent kept telling me she didn’t know how to add me to the system and that I should’ve gotten a 3rd party email upon move in. Nonetheless, some carriers don’t have access to the lockers so our packages sit on a chair until they’re eventually stolen. There’s no sense of security and the leasing office won’t hold packages. Overall, the communication at this complex is terrible. This is the worst management I’ve ever experienced since I moved to Houston.
Thanks to Lizet I was able to find comfort in making Astor my home. Her knowledge and kindness really elevated the experience here. Thanks Liz for your wonderful service!!
If you are thinking you will get what you see… I’d have to warn you. This place is a mess! The gates are 50% of the time open, some balconies look like storage and when it comes to “non smoking” place, forget about it! Pot is everywhere!
My move in was not a good experience. The guys at the leasing office weren’t as helpful as the other complexes I had experience with. The second point is about the interior condition of my apartment. All the holes on the walls were visible, the windows are not cleaned and the fun in the bedroom and kitchen faucet were down.
When I came to visit was everything perfect, but since that I moved I will be honestly super different. Dont move to here. They need to chance ASAP the management, its been 4 months and more than 10 times the water is cut off and always during business hours, where people need to work or go to school, better than that no communication from the office.Pool supposedly to be open 24h ( that was the plus for me and they show like an plus too) now until 10pm.Another thing when u open a request for maintenance sometimes they closed without any answer. They are nice when u go there, but they really need to have more communication with the residents.
Edit: I still love my apartment! We’ve been through several managers but it’s slowly improving again!I had a smooth move in process! My apartment is beautiful and I’ve already met friendly residents! I want to thank Jeff and Anna for going above and beyond and exceeding my expectations!!
Very nice and calm all neighbors are very kind the staff is amazing very helpful and caring I really appreciate the help they provide me when needed this is home
I have been so happy here these past 2 years and look forward to renewing again. This is an incredibly well situated complex, close to everything I need. I am retired and the majority of folks I meet seem to be 20-40, but everyone is courteous to me and friendly. The office staff have been kind, efficient, caring and helpful. It’s a beautiful complex and there are many security measures in place which I appreciate. Our current apartment manager, Jennifer, is extremely thoughtful and cares about the property, the residents, and last but not least, my dog (he’s in love with her!). I highly recommend the Astor to those of any age. For my lifestyle it has been ideal!
Best apartments in Tanglewood!! Despite the reviews, I really am enjoying this place so far. I’ve been here for nearly a month and haven’t found anything to complain about yet. This is a safe area and I rarely see people in the hallways through out the day. If you’re planning on moving here I would recommend you lease with Shelley. She made the process extremely seamless and helped out probably more than she should have. She is a great resource and I think everyone well be excited about moving here if you get the chance to lease with her.
PLEASE READ!I lived at Astor Tanglewood for 2 years and as usual things started off nicely but shortly after I started to notice a few red flags. The elevators were regularly broken down, the fire alarms always had a fault and the call box was never working so I would always have to make the trek the long way down to the front door to get food deliveries. In addition to this, I discovered a black mold problem in my coat closet which was due to a burst fire pipe on the floor above me (photo for reference). I reported this issue and it took maintenance and the management 2 weeks to even respond to me. They did get to ripping the molded wall out but never replaced it. These are not the reason for the two stars however. Before moving out of the apartment I made sure to give a 2 months notice which management acknowledged. I cleaned and dropped my keys off with Anita TWO DAYS BEFORE the date I was supposed to move out and asked specifically if there was anything else I needed to do. Anita said no so I went off on my merry way to my new apartment. 5 months later I receive a call from a debt collector saying I owe approximately $500 to the apartment. I thought this was weird because I never received any correspondence or phone calls alluding to me owing any fees even though the apt had both my number and email on file. I called the apartment to confirm what these fees were for and Lizette told me that the fees were for cleaning as well as prorated rent for a SEVEN DAY PERIOD AFTER my move out date. The cleaning fees made sense to me and I had no issues with that portion anyway since that was taken out of my security deposit. However, charging me rent for days I wasn’t even at the apartment is EGREGIOUS. My main issue is that when I asked for proof that they tried to contact me before sending the bill to collections, the apartment couldn’t provide me with anything substantial. I understand that stuff happens and a mistake could have been made on their end and I would have paid whatever fees IF they had contacted me. Lizette’s response is always “there’s nothing we can do since we already sent it to collections.” I also requested for a supervisor for assistance or some sort of compensation and have done so consistently for about 3 weeks but for some reason the supervisor is never “in the office”, “has Covid” or “is stuck in traffic.” I would advise you not to rent here. The amenities don’t work half the time, management will basically steal from you and I would rate in house maintenance a 7 at best. If you do end up renting here just make sure you leave a paper trail when you decide to move out. If you get apt 124, 224, 324 or 424 please check the coat closet for black mold :)
We paid for a full month stay and left 2 weeks later, a dog bit me and no one in the admin office would do a thing to help me, I even called the police and they wouldn’t show them the surveillance videos because “it wasn’t available” they were requested to show them to animal control and they couldn’t. They are supposed to have the dogs registration for cases like that one but they didn’t. We left angry and disappointed. People in general is rude. We also ordered something from Amazon, it was delivered at the door and someone stole it. We don’t recommend it at all.
I enjoy living here! The office staff is nice and friendly & always willing to help with any questions or concerns. The complex is well cleaned & i havent had an issue since I moved in July 2021.Update 2023: the complex was sold & went through management change a few times in 2022. This month (Jan 2023) Jennifer came in as the new property manager and she has been very helpful with any concerns I have and Helping me renew my lease. I personally have not experience any issues. The Maintenance team does a great job of fixing any issues I have if any.
The water goes out a couple of times throughout the day. No water to shower before work or after work. When the water turns on I have to hurry and shower because I know it’s going to get cut off. I have to have gallons of water saved to flush my toilet. You would think that I live in a third-world country. The funny part is we still have to pay the full rent!
When I moved to Astor Tanglewood in June the complex was experiencing a shift of ownership. There was several things that did not go as planned... HOWEVER, it has been such an amazing experience since. When I had a work order in for my apartment, I put in the comments to call me before entering... and THEY ACTUALLY DID. The office team, Angela in particular has been beyond helpful. She has been so helpful every step of the way. With rent communication, packages and just being friendly. As of now, thanks to people like her, I will definitely be renewing my lease!
Update 3/9/2024I had to retract my previous 5 star review as after living here for a couple of month its ridiculous how bad the leasing management team is. You can be as nice and accommodating as humanly possible to their many mistakes (and trust me, there were many, from delayed move in dates to messing up parking reservation to stolen amazon packages because they say theres a camera but theres not one which have all caused personal loss from having to book airbnb given the move in delay to replacing stolen items) but they will be as rule abiding as possible if you make one. I had scheduled payment on the 5th before I left on vacation and come back to find a note to vacate because the payment was posted just a single day late and they had charged a $136 late fee on the account which pushed my account into a $110 outstanding balance after my scheduled payment. Talk about ridiculous.___________________________________________________________1/6/2024The signing experience was not the best but the reason I gave 5 stars is that the manager Lizet and the staff are extremely friendly. The staff is a bit under trained and management is strained but the property has a great location, the facility is fantastic for the price, and the room is in good condition. You will always get bad neighbors at any property and thats not really the apartments fault. The garage gate is open all the time though so that is one area to be careful about but I have not seen a single apartment review that didnt mention car break in and garage issues in houston surrounding thus far so use your own judgement there.
I recently moved to Astor Tanglewood and very happy with my decision. The leasing and property management staff were very professional and courteous in every respect. Shelly and Liz were very helpful every step of the way. I would highly recommend Astor Tanglewood to anyone looking for a luxury apartment in a private secluded location in the Galleria area.
I highly recommend Astor Tanglewood, especially with the outstanding assistance of Shelly Bhatti. She exemplifies professionalism, dedication, and genuine care for residents, going above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my apartment search and leasing process was smooth and stress-free. Thank you, Shelly, for your outstanding service and commitment to promptly addressing any concerns I had, making me feel valued as a potential resident!
Love the property. The office staff is so helpful and attentive to our needs. The manager is very hands on and took care of all of our questions and concerns. Will definitely be recommending family and friends here.
Love Astor apartments! Very quiet property, I have zero complaints about complex. If I did I’m sure they would be handled accordingly. Extremely helpful staff in front office and awesome manager!
Overall the apartment complex is nice and for a great pric. In the perfect location and Everyone that work on the property is very helpful. I will be renewing my lease considering my first year went well. Thank you Astor tanglewood
Lived here for two years and watched it all fall apart. Complex was good when Oscar and Earl were running it. Then all of a sudden after my second year they tell me there was a “glitch in the system” and they want me to pay the difference in rent of 12 months. I tried to contact the office for 3 months prior to my move out date and was unable to get a hold of anyone and when I finally was able to talk to someone (only because they wanted to “discuss” my payment options) they said I was going to be charged a penalty for not giving them notice. I also had added my partner to my lease and paid $75 for the application, when they tried to speak to the manager they said he was not on the lease. But yet, he had a key that can only be given if authorized. A mess. Broken windows on cars, abandoned cars in the parking garage, weed smell every day, dog poops in the hall ways. Roaches in the closets, and even gunshots. And after all this they want me to pay for their “glitch in the system”. No thanks!
Can’t use pool area to host parties, gym is usually not clean, hallways are dirty and the elevator in the parking garage has been out of service for at least a month now. What’s the point in paying for “amenities” if they’re absent or sub par? Rent is too high for what you receive IMO. Decent floor plans but appliances are very old and don’t work well. Hardly luxury living.
This hallways smell like rotting garlic , old trash and piss 24/7 .. I literally gag every time I have to enter the building .. I have no idea why they don’t plug fresheners in the hallways or remove the carpet that clearly hasn’t been changed since they opened this place. That’s my biggest complaint about this place , and it’s every single floor each has a different level of disgusting smells . I wish I could hold my breath the entire way without passing out but it’s impossible. Management PLEASE WORK ON THE HORRIFYING ODORS .
I recently moved into Astor Tanglewood and it was hands down the best experience I have ever had with an apartment complex. I called and spoke with Jennifer. I had to move quickly and she was more than accommodating. Astor Tanglewood is nestled in a beautiful neighborhood. The units are huge, pristine and the price is unbeatable. I told Jennifer what was important to me for my new home and she found the perfect unit for me. I have the MOST peaceful view and yet I can drive to River Oaks or the Galleria in 5 minutes. Astor Tanglewood is a smalller community which I love and I feel very safe. Jennifer is the property manager and an absolute Angel.
I have had the pleasure of living here at Astor for two years now and my experiences have been great. I agree with others the office staff has changed a few times, but I like the new people. They have started the food truck nights again, I love the bagel events they host. I must say it is annoying they are having to ask for our vehicle information all over again, but If it will help with parking, I’m happy. The new manager is really nice and she seems to really care to make the building better. She’s always been super helpful, and responsive.Overall you get what you pay for and I’m planning to renew again until we buy a house. Do yourself a favor and come and see for yourself. I feel there are people on here who clearly needs religion to make them happy.
Nice complex. The new Gatewise app is very frustrating. One of the building 2 doors has not been able to open for a month+. The other doors haven’t been locking. I feel that the complex should’ve gave everyone a physical key fob INCASE their phones are dead or malfunctioning. Technology always malfunctions. The smart thing to do is have a fob as backup. Astor is moving in the right direction, but they should think things through before jumping the gun. I will update my review once the doors are all fixed. The staff are very kind- Jennifer is no longer the Community manager so that’s great!
I am very pleased with the new management here at Astor. Angela Rodriguez, the community manager is very compassionate. She went above and beyond to assist me with some minor issues. This place is very organized, professional and clean. You would not regret living here! The new leasing agent that sits at the front desk is amazing as well. I am really happy to be here.
Lived there for a year. Moved out in May 2022 because they high jacked the rent.. Horrible. Fire alarms every week, outages, broken parking gate. I’ve tried for several months to get my security deposits. Called and was redirected several times. Each time told they would call me back. Emailed people who in the past, emailed me back while I was living there, who now either don’t work there anymore or ignored. Just saw a post that I am not the only that it’s happened to. Don’t move here.
NOT WORTH IT.We moved here cuz we loved the location and the apartment had “luxury” amenities that seem worth it at the time. Now we feel that we could have saved that money and move somewhere else.Management is declining by the second.HALLWAYS stay dirty for months, you can look down and see dead-alive roaches everywhere, Pet stains and dirty walls doesn’t seem luxury at all. They should vacuum every week but the don’t. They only do it on the first floor.ELEVATORS get broken every month and stay that way for longer that it should. They put air fresheners but it is really bad when the usual piss odor mix with it.GYM-COMMON AREAS aren’t clean properly, you can easily see the stains on the machines and walls. They do provide cleaning supplies for the tenants to clean the machines but they don’t get refill that fast. Floor doors looks dirty and they stay broken for longer periodsPARKING lots looks dirty, there are broken drains, trash cans stay full, cars get broken in, they doesn’t reform parking rules soo visitors take residents spots regularly. Garage doors get broken easily and that makes it a safety hazard. The fire alarm gets trigger regularly at 2-3am, tenants smoke inside the apartments and common areas so the smell gets inside your apartment frequently, they don’t provide any surveillance even tho cars and units have been broke in, if you wanna relax in your balcony you can’t do it without piss-poo smell. They don’t seem to do backgrounds checks on tenants so there had been violence cases and altercations between tenants. We are currently looking to move out cuz the only thing that they seem good at is raising prices. Please save your money. Don’t get confuse by the paid reviews or the new tenants suggests reviews. It’s sad for us to post this, we waited for almost a year to post this but is something that is affecting a lot of residents. Most of our neighbors had move out and is very clear that management is not doing his job properly.
Alright. Lets begin this long, negative review.I leased an apartment here from August 2020 through September 2022. My lease ended September 30, 2022. I vacated the property Sept 7. I sent an email notification that I was not renewing on July 28, 2022 - prior to the 60 days required. Management acknowledged this the same day. Fast forward to Sept 7, they take receipt of the keys and garage fob. Its now early November and I call and inquire about the two deposits that have not been returned to me. No one has any answers, excuses all around. I attempt to call back the following week. 10+ calls and multiple emails gone answered. Never once have they attempted to contact me. Wait, thats not true. They tried to call me on December 17, 2022 to try and ask me about unpaid rent. Unpaid rent for months I didnt live there! Ive gone done to the leasing office and still cannot get any answers. Ill resort to sueing them, but i really wish it hadnt come to this.Leasing issues aside, theres many more negatives to discuss. The fire alarms. Every month or so, expect the most ear piercing noise to awake you from your sleep at 2 or 3 am.For a month or so while I was there, they were going off every night or two. Every. Single. Night. It was incredible.Incessant power outages. Again, once a month you can expect the entire complexs power to go out. This could be for a few seconds or a minute. Very, very frustrating especially working from home as it would go out around 10am or so. It seemed to have been resolved for a few months, but who knows. I could have just been out. This was a consistent feature for the entire length of my stay.Property is very unsanitary. I cleaned up after my dog, but it seemed I was in the minority. Dog park was very rarely cleaned or kept stocked with waste bags. Just an unpleasant experience. The garage gate serves no protection purpose for your vehicle. It is inoperable maybe 50% of the time. And should you be so unlucky to need to leave right after a power outage, its not going to open. So good luck.Of the three elevators, 1 was always out of service. Quite often 2 of the 3 were out of service. The fake reviews. I dont know if they are paying people to write 5 star reviews or what, but this place is in no way 5 stars for anyone. Pay no attention to 5 star reviews with no comments.
Dog park building door doesn’t open, building 2 first floor door across from the parking garage doesn’t open. There’s always a rock there to hold it open. The door further down is always left unlocked. Definitely not a secure complex & the old system was much better. The tap on the door sensors again, don’t work. Highly disappointed. It’s been like this for months… No changes. You would think Property management would be on it
Gym equipments are broken, not fixed after 5 months, elevators out of service randomly, water outage, AC not working in the launge area,...
So far, my experience here has been as good as expected. My partner and I received so much help from the great Astor staff from the first call to set up a tour, to preparing to sign the lease, and through our first week here. Apartment living will always have its own unique challenges- upstairs neighbors with a heavy walk or resident kids having some very loud fun at the pool- but I would say the comfort and safety I have felt here far outweighs any of the day to day apartment living challenges. The neighborhoods around here are great, and the community feels homey and safe.
This review is just for the nice lady Anna in the leasing office. Anna is honest, very welcoming, responsible, and professional. She helped us the lease, moving in, and a few maintenance issues. Nobody likes fake promises or fake smiles. We like her to get things done if she promises to do so. Sorry to hear that she is leaving because some family issues oversea. Hope the management can retain and promote good employees like her. The leasing office is always under staff, can not stand to wait 10-20 minutes even made an appointment with them, and recent not appropriate communication with us about pet policy change. We love this property, but management/owner please do more to both your employees like Anna and all tenants.
Jennifer and her team with Avan mgmt is the ONLY reason why im updating my review. She is a God send for Avan. The moment she started she got right to work with cleaning up the dirty hallways, courtyard area, etc. I have never seen the property as cleaned up as it is now. Theyve installed large fog lights on the side to help with walking during the night. Shes actually listened to tenants when they complain of terrible neighbors and is not afraid of evicting those who do not follow the simple rules given. Anytime something is not working, she has it fixed immediately rather than weeks on end with no solution like the last group of employees. I see her walking around daily looking at things that need repairs. She is a true leader and genuinely cares about everyone here. I had some major issues with the previous group of Avan Managers when they first took over. My apartment flooded due to my broken dishwasher that I had put a work order in for multiple times with the previous mgmt company. So Ill admit that wasnt Avans issue. But, I got 0 assistance with anything. No maintenance help, no help with the sitting water, nothing. They suggested I sweep the water off my balcony. The next week, I was told Im liable for all damages and would have to pay out of pocket even though my insurance policy said otherwise. Obviously, I refused to pay, and their response was theyd investigate more. Never heard from that employee again. I called a week later to find out not only was that employee no longer working there, but they had never actually reported the flood to anyone. My guess is they wanted me to pay out of pocket to avoid showing this mistake to anyone. Then Angela took over as manager and dropped everything to attend to my unit. Had Maintenace come fix the dishwasher and hired professional cleaners to get the mildew smell out (this was 8 weeks after the flood, so you can imagine the smell that followed). She was wonderful! But as time went on, the poor service resumed and that was all that I really got from her. But honestly, just helping me alone was all I needed. Angela was still great in my eyes. But for the complex itself, it wasnt much help. Now we have Jennifer and her group of leasing managers who are just so kind, so attentive, and all around a great group. I think Avan has finally found a good group of employees for us and I could not be more thankful
Came here to check out whats available for me to rent in August- Susana was so friendly and thorough when I first met her! She gave me such great information and a tour of their model 1 bedroom after asking specific questions to get down exactly what I wanted and didnt want. Its a beautiful property with a spacious lounge area to host friends! She did mention that the property had just changed management companies so they were undergoing some changes. I was hesitant because of the changes but Susana reassured me that it would still be a great place to live and they were upgrading their security to ensure improved safety and security measures including fire alarms and systems and having a security officer on property in the near future. I appreciate safety above all having been a victim of theft before so Im SUPER glad theyre making adjustments! This is definitely my top place so far especially because the location is so central and quiet!
Im happy living here! The leasing staff is nice, friendly and always willing to help with any questions or concerns. Both Sunita and Esbeidy provide exceptional customer service. Sunitas kindness and responsiveness are truly remarkable. She consistently wears a smile, demonstrating great patience and helpfulness at all times.
Living here has been great. I’ve had no issues and the community is fairly quiet. The only thing I wish was operational at the time of move in is the freight elevator. That would have made things a little easier.
These apartments are in a great location, close to the Galleria and Memorial Park, with access to the major highways to help you get anywhere you want to go quickly. I love that they have regular community events to encourage people to get to know their neighbors, and the food provided at these events is superb! The gym is small but it has everything you need to stay in shape and the pool is very picturesque. I have a small dog and really appreciate the fact that there is plenty of space to walk him and even a cute little dog park where he can run off leash. The apartments are very spacious and feel quite luxurious with nice counters and very soft carpeting. The kitchen has plenty of cabinet space and very nice appliances. The washer and dryer work very well and are not overly noisy. I also liked the fact that there is a big garden tub in the bathroom, and a huge walk-in closet which has lots of space to store everything (hanging and shelf space). The only downsides are that we can constantly hear our upstairs neighbors walking around, and some of the features have not held up well (paint chipping, and flooring getting scratched very easily). Also the freight elevator has been out of service for over a month now. Overall, they are great apartments.
Liz and Luis are amazing and are always helping out with my time living here at Atsor. Will renew!!!
Apartment hunting , management was super helpful and friendly. Went above and beyond call of duty . Lizet worked with my family and I, toddler and pup included, with answering all of my questions I had.
I’ve been here since January 2022 and I’ve had no complaints. New Management came in around May and made the place even better. The office staff is top tier professional and very helpful. I would recommend anyone fond of the area to move into Astor Tanglewood. Also, I love the added sound of the water fall from my apartment. ☺️
We love this place because Brandon at the front desk is the best and absolutely amazing. I think our dog loves him more then he loves us. He knows us by name, tells us when we have packages as we walk by and helps us with all the small things like when we lose our keys and the office is closed. He has even volunteered to walk our dog for us when we were stuck out of town and he keeps special dog treats in his desk because our little guy has a sensitive stomach and can’t handle the free treats they provide. He has truly made our stay here enjoyable. The apartment itself is nice for the price. You can’t beat the price per square foot this close to the loop and still have a nice apartment. There is a little more dog poop than I would like when they run out of the free bags, but they allow any sized dog which is perfect for us. Typically, our maintenance requests are handled within a week. All in all, it’s great for the price and as long as they have people as nice as Brandon working here, I can’t see us moving anywhere else.
Astor has been home for us for 10 months now, the apartments are nice, upscale and fairly clean. Management has done well with keeping the courtyards free of dog waste - that was a major concern at nearly all the buildings we looked at before selecting this one. Some owners continue to let their dogs pee on the parking garage stairs which is incredibly ignorant but I dont know how management can solve that without physically being there. Location is incredible, close to Galleria and great restaurants in the area and very close to Memorial Park. We are one block off of the busy road so its pretty quiet back here. Maintenance is fantastic and the front office, Kristen, Branden and Jeff are very professional and care about what they do.
I love my apartment at Astor Tanglewood and I have been living here for over 5 years. The property was sold by Millcreek to another leasing company and the transition was not smooth at all!! I was considering moving but finally the new management company hired a property manager, Lizet, who started making a difference. The hallways are clean, the garage is clean and almost all my maintenance requests are completed same day or next day. Lizet is effective, she is a great listener and she is fair. I decided to renew my lease another year because of her. Things are getting better at Astor - thank you Lizet.
Moved here a few months ago and we are totally loving our place. The apartment complex is perfectly located close to freeways, shopping areas and restaurants. The location is really peaceful and safe, but what we love the most about this place is the staff. They are all really helpful and attentive, making the place feel homey. Oscar was really helpful with our move here, he made the entire process feel seamless. I would definitely recommend making this community your home if you are in the market.
OMG!!! Oscar is AMAZING! I have been living here for 3 years. When my lease, was up he helped me to make sure I wasn’t homeless and paying too much out of pocket for a place. He helped me to locate a perfect spot in Astor and kept me updated every step of the way. The whole Astor team are great! Maintenance is done quickly. The location is phenomenal. You are close to the Galleria, Memorial park and close to major freeways. But yet a bit far from the Galleria traffic.
Ive lived at Astor Tanglewood for almost 5 months now and I love it! Chass and Grant are super friendly and helpful. The maintenance staff are quick and efficient. They work very hard on keeping the complex clean and functional. And you cant go wrong with the pool, gym and amazing location!Ive had such a positive experience here. They hold my packages when Im gone. They fixed my bathroom sink right away when I had a little problem. And so far I havent had any problems with the other residents. Id highly recommend this place to anyone!
This is the best place to live. Laticia and Ryan have been absolutely amazing and accommodating. Not only am I new to the building, I am new to Houston and they have been quite the welcoming committee and have made my transition very smooth and seamless. I recommend this building to anyone looking for an apartment. Not only because the location is premium but the staff here are phenomenal and you will enjoy every moment of you life here,.
If I could rate 0 I would. This property has a bug issue , when I came to do a walk through with my friend the hallways smelled clearly of garbage. This location is pet friendly, which is fine but the back elevators we took smelled strongly of dog urine. Also the stairs can afford to be swept and vacuumed- so much pet shedding. The apartments had dead bugs and ROACHES when we viewed them .Also , parking is terrible.0/10 don’t recommend.
Its a very nice place here. That employee Luis Andrade made the experience so much easier; overall a very nice place.
Let me preface this by saying I had some SERIOUS issues with the new management when they started. My apartment flooded due to my dishwasher the week Avan property management took over. When I finally got someone on the phone, they showed up with a vacuum meant for a car, handed it to me, and told me to clean it up myself. I ended up using my broom to sweep out GALLONS of water off my 5th floor balcony. The following week a lady who I will not name due to her termination a week after, told me I would have to pay out of pocket for the damages and would not give me a reason why. Luckily, I work for a property management company myself and I know my rights. I refused to pay, and the lady NEVER reported my flood to anyone! It took 2 weeks, and a couple of calls up to their corporate office to get a response. Thankfully, Angela took over as leasing manager and she immediately took care of all the issues. Although I am still dealing with the mildew smell in my carpet (Im assuming by the time Angela was able to get my carpets cleaned, it was too late), she really stepped up and helped me on the spot. I think when any new Property mgmt. starts, there is going to be hiccups. Given, there shouldnt have been this many issues. The fire alarms in the middle of the night, issues answering the phone and returning calls, etc. But, I see Avan improving every week now!
Not worth the hassle. If Ryan is still there, dont bother living here. He is terrible-irresponible, nonresponsive to contact attempts except for getting you to sign the lease of course. I saw someones review about Ryan before I moved in and should have heeded it...Leticia is okay I suppose, she does a lot of covering up for Ryan without acknowledging the issues he causes. The place is dilapidated and there was a serious smoking issue when I was there.Id give this place a 1 instead of a 2, but the Maintenance team is decent and Melissa was helpful. Also the biggest thing for me was the 30-day satisfaction guarantee by Mill Creek, which was the reason I took the risk. Ive almost only lived in 30 to 45 day satisfaction apartments so I could leave if I needed to without penalty. This is the only apartment Ive ever actually used it for and moved out of. Im glad I did.
Jennifer has been so helpful & accommodating to our needs. We’ve had a few issues come up and she really took initiative & helped us get squared away. I definitely recommend this apartment complex & ask for Jennifer for direct assistance she’s amazing and so professional!
I have been a resident here for over three years and I love this apartment complex. The location is ideal and I love that memorial park is just down the street and the Galleria Mall is only a 5 minute drive! Some of the reviews below are surprising because even with the minor issues I have had the leasing office has always been quick to fix them. There will never be a perfect apartment complex but I have to say that this complex has been my favorite so far!
We really enjoy living at astor tanglewood since 2017 . The new office team has been great to work with. The leasing assistant sonita has superior customer service. She is kind and responsive. Always with smile and very patience and helpful.
Came in today for my appointment to tour the property at 4 pm. I arrived a bit early and decided to wait about 10 minutes before leaving as there was no one in the leasing office and the sign on the door said “closed”. I don’t understand why they think it’s okay to waste people’s time like this. I was excited to see the property but I guess I’ll take this incident as a sign to go somewhere else.
Had a wonderful experience touring with Luis he went above and beyond getting me all the information I needed 10/10🙂
I have lived here for less than a year and there have already been 3 changes in management. The new management reduced all office hours including completely closing on Sundays. They never answer the phone and still have not set up a voicemail. The hallways recently have had roaches and flies. The worst part about all of this though is the FIRE ALARMS. They are broken and go off at lease 3-4 times a month, the majority of the time it occurs around 2am!! We have received no communication from the new management on what they are doing to fix this and last night let them ring for over 20 minutes before they turned them off. I cannot wait to leave this place.
I hesitated to submit this review, however when speaking with them today they did ask me to submit a review. I had toured and signed a lease on this property with the prior management team who we very much enjoyed. However, we were notified approximately 2 weeks before our lease was scheduled to start that they were changing management, while this brought me some concern, we were of course planning on moving forward. Come closer to move in date I still had not heard anything from the management company so I had to call myself to determine if any terms or conditions were changing. It was then FOUR days prior to move in they tell me they are closed Sundays (when the lease was scheduled to start) so we had to come get our keys on Saturday- no big deal, but I wish they had been proactive in reaching out to us. I did not receive any more communication from them until the day prior to us having to pick up keys - and the amount they were charging us at move in was incorrect and all of the paperwork was different from what we had been previously provided. I decided I would speak with them when I went to pick up the keys at the end of the business day as instructed. Come 1:45 pm I get a call from them that they close at 3pm and I am appalled at their business hours as anyone that works an 8-5 job will never be able to go into the office unless it is 10am-3pm on Saturday. Upon arrival -- to make it short - we were given the WRONG keys to our apartment, the door fobs did not work on all the doors, and one of our clickers did not work. After resolving this (as the leasing team is trying to run out the door - very unprofessional and rude) we finally get into the unit and are APPALED at the condition of the unit we were supposed to move in the following day. We immediately walk in to a big puddle on the floor and when opening the freezer water starts pouring out. It had not been cleaned at all, and had not been painted and still had holes in the walls, dirt on the walls, dirty toilets and showers and tubs, dirty grout, a bag of potting soil on the balcony, stains on the patio and granite, dust in the corners, dirty baseboards, dirty backsplash, etc. and in all looked like they had merely vacuumed and mopped the unit - but you name it everything else was not ready to be leased and unacceptable for what they were charging for our move in day. They then advise they can get the cleaning lady in today but are closed Sunday so wouldnt be able to check her work and would not be able to get the painter until Monday (when we moved in Sunday) but would not give us any monetary concessions due to the fact it was not ready on our move in day.... I have never been one to be difficult when moving into an apartment as I dont expect perfection, but this was beyond bad for somewhere I am planning on making my home for the year. Overall I would be VERY cautious prior to moving in here with this new managementForgot to mention in original post... they have had this property for over a month now and have still failed to set up their voicemail as I have tried to call several times... buyer beware
I moved in just a few weeks ago, and I have loved it so far! I really enjoy the location, and I also feel safe here. The staff here is also amazing! Oscar made the whole moving process easy. He has been and continues to be super helpful and is always willing to answer any of my questions. I definitely recommend living at Astor Tanglewood Apartments!
This building is newer than some other apartments but feels much older. As soon as new management took over it started falling apart and all of us who have lived here for several years have begun moving out. Every time it rains the power goes out in the neighborhood and the elevators break. I have never heard of elevators breaking after a power outage. It takes weeks (sometime months) for them to get the elevators working again with the exception of the lobby elevator. There are also roaches all over the first floor hallway. Some dead, some still alive. GROSS! The crowd has become sketchy and two of the other residents I spoke with have said they had their catalytic converters taken from their cars while parked in the garage!! Not safe anymore.
I have just moved it a few month ago and I am very happy. All my concerns are addressed in a timely fashion and manner . Leasing office crew is always there when I need them. My place is spacious and beautiful. The location is great! I recommend!
Ive recently moved in right before new management. Lets just say it was unresolved issues regarding the old management that was not communicated to me. Esbettie in the office was great with explaining things to me regarding a balance I was not aware I owed. She was patient and very understanding. I love my stay here at Astor Tanglewood.
Amazing staff and community!! Everyone’s experience is different but I love it here because the place is always clean! Also I lost my keys 2 days ago and because I didn’t want to pay the fee I didn’t have keys for that whole time lol anyways I came today to get a new set of keys and I found out that not only did someone in the apartment building find it but they also turned it in and the office gave it to me I am so excited and appreciate!!! Thanks guys!!!
Great apartment to live in! Oscar really helped make the move into this place easy. The areas around the complex are always kept clean, they vacuum often, and the place generally smells good. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Dont move here. Terrible new property management company. The first months here were great, but its gone downhill since then. Late night pool parties, false fire alarms, rude staff, ridiculous new fees, and shoddily repaired equipment such as the main garage door are a safety hazard. Please keep looking if you stumble on this place, there are much better options.
My wife and I have lived at Astor Tanglewood for three years and the staff and building have never been better! Chassity, Jeffrey and Brandon are out of this world helpful and responsive to needs of the residents and the building. We first met Chassity when she worked at this building for the previous company. When our a/c went out a few years back, she took ownership more than the manager at the time to take care of us. She handles her business with more than just professionalism, but also humanness. While the previous management (different company) often delayed repairing or improving the building, this is not true with this team.Chassity focuses on retaining her existing residents by being responsive to their needs rather than assuming residents will stay just because they dont want to move. Some negative reviews have been placed here by some residents whom constantly have sour faces over EVERYTHING to EVERYONE.Rents havent been raised in 2 years and the company offers incentive to renew your lease. The locations is excellent and the amenities are outstanding. If you are considering a building in the Galleria area, stop here first!
I struggled between rating 2 or 3 stars. In the end, I decided to go with 2 stars review solely because of the 2 pros I barely managed to write down. Ive been here almost a year, so I feel confident in the things Ive noticed in that time.Pros:- apartment finishes are nice- Great location if you like hopping around inner city HoustonCons:- Guests will park in resident parking and/or there will be no parking anywhere on nights/weekends after 8PM, except on the 7th/8th floor.- Some neighbors have absolutely no respect at all. Mine smoke copious amounts of weed, and the entire hallway stinks. Normally I have nothing against that, but occasionally its been so strong that my apartment reeked as well. I have at least 3 neighbors that BLAST their music at all hours of the night and day. The one next to me has had multiple people attempt to talk to them, and notes left on their door. I have attempted to talk to them about it myself, but they refuse to answer when I knock. They continue to blast their music anyway at all times. Ive woken up at 2, 3 or 5AM before, and couldnt go back to sleep because of their music. That same apartment has had at least one fight that spilled into the hallway at 10PM. Ive tried calling the off-duty courtesy officer, and got voicemail. I never received any kind of follow up, and I assume its pointless to try again because of the pattern Ive seen.- Management is unresponsive. Dont bother with phone and email. If you want anything done, you better be prepared to go into the office. I cant even begin to count how many emails or calls Ive tried, and never gotten a response. I should have recognized this earlier when I first applied for an apartment, and it took approx 30 days for me to find out the paperwork was approved. Ive currently sent at least 3-4 emails regarding me not renewing my lease to the manager and assistant manager (who is leaving/has left anyway now), and never once gotten a response. Its because of this pattern that I havent bothered approaching them to discuss these problems Ive had. I genuinely dont believe they would care or do anything to rectify it.- Maintenance is extremely slow or does not show up at all, even for urgent requests. Just to name ONE issue, my shower wasnt working at all and I put in an emergency ticket. I had to call, email, and show up in person to the office after I got off work to complain that maintenance never showed up. The problem is that maintenance is grossly understaffed, and its been a problem ever since I moved in with no improvement. Ive had the management communicate to me that they were understaffed, so I would assume its still true given my experience.- Even though youre paying for a premium community, a fair number of pet owners are still pretty trashy and leave their dogs urine, vomit, and poop all over the community. Most of it is confined to the grassy courtyard, but occasionally youll see urine stains in the hallway & elevators. They have porters that will clean up most of it though.- Trash rooms are a huge issue too. Theres valet trash Sunday-Thursday, yet people will still throw bags of trash in the trash rooms, and leave it to rot. Very frequently, the smell will permeate hallways if youre unlucky to live near the trash room. Management occasionally will put out air plug-ins to help, but people keep stealing them.- Same thing with the grills by the pool. Management continually put out grill brushes, and people either kept throwing them away or stealing them. Now there are no grill brushes, and the grills are absolutely filthy. Ive had to buy my own grill brush.Bottom line: if you value peace and quiet. If you prefer not to smell weed. If you prefer to have management and maintenance that actually cares and follows up in a timely manner . If you want good value for your hard-earned money, consider a different apartment.Everything in my review is a fact, and not an opinion. They are my experiences, and may not necessarily reflect other peoples or your experience if you decide to move here.
Luis made the tour so smooth and easy to understand was happy to help in any way!
Unfortunately I have to change my rating from a five star to a one star. I love the apartment, the amenities and location but the noise levels are awful. When complaints are made over and over you don’t have any progress and if there are actions taken it does not make any difference. While the office mentioned they reached out to help resolve the issues- absolutely nothing has improved even with several additional calls. This causes you to have to leave your apartment because neighbors are so loud ALL HOURS OF THE DAY AND NIGHT. My experience here has taken a turn and it’s a huge disappointment. I wish I felt valued as a resident here because
I lived here for over a year and had virtually no problems until it came to move out. I paid a deposit of a full months rent and despite multiple emailsand calls to the management team, who barely respond, I have not had this returned. Its a shame as to your face they will tell you they are working on it but nothing happens.Agree with other comments about some pet owners not clearing up after their pets and leaving piles of sick in corridors. This block barely recycles and its a disgrace.
I recently moved in, but it feels like I’ve been here so much longer. Everyone that works here is so great! Especially Oscar! He made my move-in process so easy and streamline, and is always available to answer any of my questions. What is particularly special is how Oscar and everyone in the office are so helpful and willing to do anything they can to make my life easier. Astor Tanglewood rocks!! :)
Leasing and move in process was smooth and easy. Oscar and the office were beyond kind and helpful. The apartments are clean and well kept with a swift response from maintenance when something goes wrong! 10/10 would recommend!
I have called The Astor home for 2 years now. The best part of The Astor is the staff particularly Brandon Williamson. He is helpful, remembers your name and unit number, and is pleasnt to work with. I have had the very opposite experience at prior Apartments in Houston where the front office is terribly unhelpful and gets annoyed when you have a package. Brandon is great to work with doesnt give attitude. One quick story. I forgot my phone and needed to make a phone call and he was willing to give me his for what ended up being a good 30 minute phone call. Not many people would be willing to give someone their phone especially that long. The rest of the staff is wonderful, but Brandon seems to be there a lot and is really great!!!
Angela (manager) is a great professional and very helpful. She went above and beyond to make me feel like a resident (member of the community) and showing me all of the details and even include my GF in a video call. She is awesome - as she says - this is a cozy and quiet community - just the way we want it! - thanks
I toured the property with a lady named Angela she was great . Really clean nice property . Loved the unit she showed me and I plan on leasing there. She made me feel like Astro at Tanglewood should be my future home. Thanks for making my decision easy.
I’ve lived in Astor Tanglewood since July 2020, and it has been a great experience so far! Be in apartment amenities are fabulous, maintenance is prompt, and Oscar has been an excellent liaison between residence and the leasing office. My only disclaimer is that as of late there have been rolling power outages, but I’m certain that’s with the city of Houston rather than Astor Tanglewood. Keep it up y’all and thank you!
Stopped by to look at an apartment. Definitely going to lease the unit. Office amenities were clean and the staff was professional. The atmosphere was great. A huge thank you to Angela and Luzelizabeth for making it great experience.
I would not recommend moving to Astor based on the following:Perks:-Great location-Practical/diverse floorplans-Great views-Great rent concessions-Staff members are great and helpfulPain Points:-Power surges are frequent in the building-Fire alarms sound off randomly and excessively-Water system is strange and goes down frequently-Resident parking is terrible after 7p-Hallways are nasty and smelly (carpet needs ro be replaced)-Appliances are dated-Elevators are down frequently. No cargo elevator-Gym is small-Low volume of amenities-Pet urine/waste left in hallways-Some Residents allow pets to go unleashed-No Stairwell inside building in case of fire/emergency-Building needs renovations
Great experience with Astor Tanglewood. When I showed up inquiring about a place I was impressed with the price, location, and staff. Grant helped me throughout the whole process. He was very professional and he was very authentic. What I was impressed with the most was when I brought up the reviews. Though the reviews were great already I talked about how I couldnt help but notice the small bad ones. Grant was knowledgable about the those specific reviews and was quick to put my concerns to rest as he was able to tell me the steps they have taken since. I walked in on a Tuesday and was given the keys Thursday for a Friday move in and Grant has been accommodating to every request I had and is quick to follow up (via email). I will leave a follow up review in the coming months. I dont leave many (or any reviews at all) but I had such a good experience and I hope my experience helps someone else. Before going with this location I had previously looked at 10 other locations.
Crazy tenants shooting guns and speeding through the parking lot. Not exactly what I would consider “luxury” living! The management knows they have FELONS living on that property and do nothing to address a recent incident with another tenant who was shot at and had bulletholes on her car window as a result.
Fire alarm and the change of management has been bad. Management can’t pick up the phone. Also people that work here are adding 5 star reviews to make it seem like it’s not as bad but the leasing office isn’t really doing anything for managing the property. Here is a roach in the hallway. It’s been here for a week.
The management of this place needs improvement. They claim to be “tenant-focused” but that couldn’t be further from the truth. They rarely pick up the phone and do very little management of the property. I miss the days of Earl and Oscar running the office, it’s certainly gone downhill since that team left.
Moving to the Astor Tanglewood has been a great decision. The building is in the perfect location Uptown and yet in a very quiet area. Most importantly, the management team is the best Ive ever come across! Kristen, Brandon, and Jeff especially are so approachable and absolutely amazing! Would highly recommend the building!
Do not rent in this property they asked me to apply for an apartment and if I did not get approved Im able to bring a co-signer after applying and paying the fee which was 265$ in time all the properties charge 50$ only i got denied and they didn’t accept from me to bring a co-signer and the money was not returned able they were so rude I do not recommend them
Fire alarms randomly go off, roaches in the halls and inside of the apartments, horrible parking, main hallway always has a smell due to trash room not being maintained.Apartment wasn’t clean at move-in and management company change without notice during lease signing.Common areas are barely cleaned and dog hair severely clumped up in the stairwells.
Jeffrey is fake nice, dismissive and does not follow up. He came across like he wanted to deter me from leasing there. Good job Jeffrey! You were trained well. Maybe Astor was at their black people limit. That’s how I felt ! I Will not be back ! 👍🏾Part 2Today I received a call from the property manager Chassity. I appreciate you being concern about my experience at The Astor apartments. You were patient, polite and professional during our discussion. Thank You ! for following up Chassity, I valued the time you took to hear my perspective and better understand my experience.**5 stars for professionalism and follow up**(I apologize if I misspelled your name.)
Please do not move here. This place has turned out awful. When I first moved here it was actually nice. There is a new assistant manager in the office. He is extremely rude and insensitive. He ignores residents. This current front office team ignores emails and phone calls from current residents. The least they can do is return emails and phone calls. They ignore residents standing outside of their office. They are unhelpful! By the way, they also price gouge. I will be following up with their superiors on this matter. Keep looking please.
My move in was simple and Luis and Liz were great
I’ll start by saying that Oscar is EVERYTHING! He’s so personable, knows all the residents by name, and ALWAYS goes above and beyond. Oscar is truly the shining star of Astor! Astor is centrally located in its own little nook near the Galleria but w/o the Galleria traffic. All the hotspots are just a short drive. I highly recommend!
First off, let me start off by saying my move in experience was AWFUL. I arrived the day before from Florida to move in, which by the way I had and spoke with Brandon earlier in the week about it. Brandon who informed me that his mgr said it was ok for me to move in the day before my lease actually started because I was moving from Florida. Arrived at the leasing office at open on Sunday, and was taken on a tour of the property. When we arrived at my unit mind you this was my first time seeing my apartment in person. He opened the door and all I saw was cleaning equipment and carts all over the apartment. I was told that the apartment was suppose to have been cleaned on Friday and was ready for move in. Brandon called the on site team and was told the carpet needed cleaned, and bathroom, etc. I was later informed that the apartment wasnt quite ready yet, and that their would accompany me to stay in the model unit on site until my apartment was ready which would be the next day. Also, the maintenance guy told brandon that the locks hadnt been changed yet either at my apartment so I definitely didnt feel comfortable staying in my unit anyway. I was able to move all my things up to the unit, but I was upset but my brand new bed I wouldnt be able to sleep on in my first night there. I also was upset because the only help I had was going back after we got my things and my bed put together. Brandon did offer his help in assisting me to put together my bed the next day once my apartment was ready. So I was ok with staying in the model unit for the night until we went down and there was no TV or internet access. At this time Brandon made some calls and was able to allow me to stay at a sister facility (SOLA) which was around the corner. Well he later informed me that they couldnt find the key to this model, the locks needed to be changed here as well, and they had to clean it up before I came. I waited a couple hrs at my apartment until I heard from Brandon who was updating me while I waiting. Finally, I made it to SOLA later that night. Needless to say, after being on the road since 12AM,driving 9hr30mins from Florida to Houston, and moving all my furniture up to my apartment I was exhausted after all the mix ups at the property. However, Brandon was very professional and helpful in accompanying me in getting settled to the best that he could. If I could give this place NO STARS I WOULD. That was my move in experience in a nutshell minus all the other little things I didnt like. I will say the property is beautiful, and we will see how the next 6months go.
Amazing experience! Luzbeth and Angela we’re so helpful and very patient answering any question I had. The apartments are super clean and pretty! Moving in next month I’m so excited!! Thank you so much Luzbeth and Angela!
Excellent place to live. Units are very spacious, clean, and well maintained. Office and maintenance staff are great and very respectful and helpful. I would definitely recommend friends and family here.
I recently toured this property with my boyfriend and we love it! The guy that helped us, Brandon, was very informative and answered all of our questions. We specifically love the fact that the property is kind of in a secluded neighborhood, instead of off a major street. I can imagine the noise level to be at a minimum. Also, I like that everything looks basically new. With Astor Tanglewood being in Uptown, near great restaurants, shopping, and close proximity to 610, 10, and 59, this is definitely at the top of our list! Thank you again Brandon for all the help!
I have only lived at Astor for two months and I am very happy to be here. The office staff is great, the grounds are beautiful and I feel very safe with all of the security. My dog loves it too!
Let me start off by saying, I NEVER leave reviews! But I had to leave one this time. I toured these apartments not long ago with my boyfriend. The guy Brandon that help us was so nice and helpful! He was very informative, polite and Patient because I am so indecisive. Lol. The alartmensts are really nice, and inexpensive. If you are looking to move here ask for Brandon! He is awesome!
I’ve been working with Angela since Avan took over. She’s been very helpful and accommodating. Everytime I’ve brought up something to her or needed assistance with my apartment she took care of it immediately.
I wish I could give them zero star.look at my packages somebody stole all my stuff right in front of camera.management of this building is awful.they don’t care about your stuff .safety in this building is a joke .Dont be fooled by their advertising
I found my new home at Astor Tanglewood, office staff was beyond helpful and friendly. Made my leasing experience effortless. Community was clean great amenities just what I was looking for.
Had an amazing experience, Luzbeth & Angela were super helpful in answering any questions I had. They were really professional & sweet as well! Felt really welcomed coming into the building & they gave me an amazing tour. 10/10 recommend !
Been at Astor for 2 years now and it is an amazing place to live! From the great facilities to the awesome staff. Highly recommend it and super grateful to Chassity, our community manager, who always goes above and beyond to make our lives easier.
I just moved to Astor at Tanglewood although I don’t know to much my experience so far has been pretty awesome the staff in the leasing office was amazing and very helpful (Sunita and Betty ) looking forward to my adventure here and will post an update after a few months … Over all very nice complex at a great price point
The process has been amazing. The communication and everyone involved made it very easy. Altogether I had a great experience with a lot of informative tips and helpful staff.
Really convenient location to galleria area and the building is well-run and very pet friendly. Particular thanks to Oscar Lara in the leasing office for always being available and responsive to questions and going out of his way to help residents.
I just signed a lease at this location and I want to tell you that Anna Dorley, Leasing Consultant as provided amazing customer service. She even offered to come to work earlier, so I could get the keys to my apartment. I am looking forward to live at Astor Tanglewood - Joao Gomes
The leasing staff and manager are so sweet and good at they job they even work with you if you having problems around your unit or your stay i love my stay here :)
Everyone is so nice and friendly. Shelly is a Sweet Heart ♥️. The place is so nice and clean and beautiful 😍. Make sure you ask for Shelly !!!!!
We really enjoy living here. It is a great complex. The staff and people that live here are very friendly. The staff does a great job of always finding ways to improve and make it a pleasant living experience.
Amazing I really miss Kristi but , All the staff is great the only downside was the RESERVED parking I paid for monthly . People just dont adhere to it. I have and will continue to recommend this beautiful property. Ill miss you guys Thanks
Great place to live. Close to 610 and I-10 Freeways. Staff is always approachable and attentive. Maintenance request are always taken care of within 24 hrs. I would definitely recommend Astor Tanglewood.
I would give zero stars if I can. The agent is rude and always overcharge money from me. If you dont ask, they would just pretend it didnt happen. They wont even say sorry for the wrong charges but kept using words to make you confused. Its the worst housing experience Ive ever had.
I visit Astor Tanglewood today. The staff here is attentive, the grounds are extremely well kept and the community is very inviting. The rent is extremely reasonable. Pet friendly!!!
I moved in a few years ago. It was really nice but unfortunately I’ll be leaving soon. The place reeks of weed & I no longer feel safe here. It’s sad how unmanaged this place has gotten. Do not move here.
The environment was great and quiet. Its convinece to go anywhere since near the highway 610.Why I gave only 2 stars? Because I think the customer service needs to be improve.
Im giving a 5 star review because i love the location the cleaness the attention of the apartments i been living here for the past 2 years but its been nothing but greatness.until recently the alarms been going off were my concerns may start with the new management.I will give management the opportunity to settle down for another week before i change my mind. And also instead of judging the new management we should be working together and report any issues that involve the alarms to sound such as people smoking close to the buildings.
Very poor management, I have moved from this apartment in 6/2022 and after seven months, they have not returned the deposit check to me yet. Always saying its on pending status.
Amazing, caring and attentive management! The property is beautiful, maintained with great care inside and out, has great amenities- the pool and the dog park are my favorites!
No one adheres to parking rules. Neighbors smoke weed aggressively all the time, as in I smell it in the hallway every time I walk by. And they cant fix the fire alarm. This is the only place I have lived post college where the fire alarm has gone off. And its happened 4 times in 6 months....
I lived at Astor for a little over a year before relocating for work. It was a perfect location, the office staff is friendly and informative, and I appreciated the responsive maintenance team!
Very nice place, Cecilia was wonderful and helped us a in finding our new home.
Beautiful & luxurious mid-rise located in Tanglewood. You can get some really nice views from this building as well. If youre in the market for a new place and are interested in this area, check them out.
Shelly helped me through the leasing process; staff and people that live here are really friendly.
Today I was visiting with a friend and I liked the apartments, the common area of the beautiful pool. Im sorry the cold came. but I love this complex.
Great location! I love the management staff! They are so friendly and attentive to everyones needs. Maintenance requests are handled in a timely manner.
It is a pretty nice building, I love the apartment and the location is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
This place will leave you with a broken ac in this Texas heat with no actual solution. Can’t even cook in my unit because then I’ll have to sleep in a hot apartment until maintenance temporarily fixes the solution.
Angela was extremely professional and accommodating in helping me understand my rent and utility charges. I love living here!!
First wanna say how pleased I was with my tour with Ms AngelaAnd loved it and glad to say I found my new home. Excited to be moving in soon
Just moved in, I love it honestly , it’s out the way ..clean .. and Laticia and Ryan both have it looking good and take care of us with anything that’s neededDefinitely a great property😏
These apartments are super polished and management is on top of their job. Definitely recommend.
We just moved to Astor Tanglewood. The whole process was easy! Oscar was really nice and helped a lot. So far we are satisfied with Astor Tanglewood.
Sunita helped me with my move out…staff and all people in office are very friendly
This complex has a terrible/horrible management. They robbed me as they deducted over 1,300 dollars unfairly from my deposit. You are warned!
Emailed the office about this (going on day 3 with this being overly full). Never received a response, which is to be expected because they dont respond. I really really wish the old management company hadnt switched.
Miguel has been a much needed change at this property! I hope he gets to stay!
Thanks to Ms Torres we found our new home. We are moving on the 19. Love this property.
Good location, beautiful apartments, very friendly neighbours, tasty coffee and tea and of course great events for neighbours)) I hope it will be better and better.
The new manager Chandis is exceptional! She is very friendly and helpful.
Management please fix fire alarms…. Other than that I love my apartment, the location and all the ammenities.
I toured this property with a friend (I’m not moving friend is) and I was so impressed by the staff and tour! I will definitely be back when it’s time for me to move!
Break ins, cars and bikes stolen, all in a matter of months. Management continues to pass the buck on security despite multiple ongoing issues.
I have called this place 82 times over the last three days at varying times throughout the day. They have never once answered the phone. This is a new management company? Embarrassing
Great property Miguel was very helpful and provided a great experience and answered all my question during my showing
Management has been very helpful and responsive to any issues that have risen, thank you especially to Esbeidy!
Management was helpful and are always working on the issues. All solved.
Too high of a application fee. 265 dollars. Is that the fee they give everyone?
Jennifer is the best! She is making the property so much better.
Staff is very courteous and attentive love the new management team I give it a 5star 👏
Leaving this at a 5 for all the great service. Thanks for getting back to me on my check and the complications with cashing a check with two names.
Best custumer service, amazing apartments 100% remended.
Great service , beautiful apartments
Love my new place! Central and yet quiet place.
All the positive reviews are fake written by the leasing people
The guy who handles the packages. Hes Mexican American is very rude to package handlers.
An amazing complex always meeting my expectations, thank you Astor !
Great experience looking forward to move to that community
Esbeidy is the best ! Excellent customer service.
It has really gone down hill with the new management.
Jennifer rocks! Love her!
I receive a excellent service from the supervisor.
This is an incredibly well situated complex.
Roach heaven. Smells terrible waking by this complex
GREAT PROPERTY. Love the staff
Very nice property.
Nice, comfort and luxurious place
Great staff. So helpful.
Angela is amazing!
Very good place
Great service!
Run
Great staff!
Great experience
Great Team
The complex as such is useless, and if it is for families less, they do not solve anything! They say they send emails but they never deign to knock on the door, they have a job where they sit all day thats why this condominium is getting worse every day because they dont solve anything while sitting, they want to do it from their office! And now they only care about parking and rent! The grill area has dog poop, they never clean it, the gym doesnt work, the pool is always dirty, they smoke marijuana in front of the kids in the pool! Among other things! Dont live here, I dont recommend it! If they would give me the same job as them, I could do it just as badly as they do! Easy job!
I was looking at my options to move and the truth is that I really liked this condo. The common areas and layout of the apartment are beautiful. And in a super central area near Galleria Mall.
The attention of the administrative department is very attentive and helps you with everything, the apartments are beautiful, spacious, comfortable and very well distributed, recommended one thousand percent!
The place is super comfortable, and beautiful. The apartments are elegant and very comfortable.
I was looking at the facilities since I am looking to move and it is good, the area is central and accessible to everything, I loved it…
