I am extremely disheartened after the discrimination my brother faced while trying to receive help at this place of residence. He was stopped at the door they would not let him in and this was before closing hours. She made him answer questions in the heat outside while letting another non African American gentlemen inside the facility. This place is to help but instead they made my brother feel very unwelcome in their space. I would really like to speak with person in charge of the facility. My brother is a 27 year old with zero criminal history or drug addiction just needed help and the one young lady treated him with disgust. I also have audio and video footage and will be filing a complaint.
Went twice, first time found some things really good.
My House Manager Melissa was absolutely amazing. She would go above and beyond for the homeless and may I also add the meals she cooked were pretty amazing as well! I also appreciated the staff that allowed me to come there especially the director Ms. Cynthia and Erica. Great place to be while trying to get back on your feet!
Great place with great people. Always something good to find at awesome prices
Good store for furniture, outdoor patio, and kitchenware. Also, the parking is nice for city parking. You can find it in the back.
Magnificat Houses helped me so much in the past.. I enjoyed staying with them on two different occasions.
The Magnificent HOUSE WAS THE BEST PLace every. Ms.G The food was great please give her a raise she made my stay peaceful and wonderful, and the Staff was wonderful they treating me so good. All I would like to say is thanks again for getting me back on track ☺️
Givin this a 3 star rating because it is good for emergency shelter for 2 weeks however, they do not get you jobs or help train you. They only give u a list of places and such. They expect you do everything in a 2 week time fram and dont give extensions... the best thing i can tell u is use those two weeks VERY VERY WISELY DONT SIT AND WASTE UR TIME! They do first come first serve but they also do appointments, they do have curfews and set times to leave the house and times to return i think u leave at 7am cant come back til 4:30 & cant be out past 9pm or u will be locked out or/and go see the office wit an explanation... they do feed u 3 times a day... my house manager was nice and helpful...
DO NOT GO HERE!!! It is not a well managed organization, my friend spent one day there, was threatened and yelled at in his face by people currently staying in one of the estates. The house he was designated to was in his words disgusting, run down and invested with addicts the residents would also plan to go purchase elicit substances as soon as the house manager left and the house manager did nothing to control the people they were assigned to. Do not go here if you expect help, they dont have their things in order and do not care for those their put in charge of. In my friends words again this place is like a prison, except you are allowed a phone and time outside. Mind you he was threaten in front of the house manager and they did nothing to defuse or control the situation. They offer 3 meals a day which if you can deal with having your life threatened and a lack of sleep, and food that could possibly be a month old or more, i guess go here. I would not recommend or even imagine this place as a viable location for finding help in any capacity. If they get rid of the problem and find new management that is willing to do their job, as well as keep it orderly and fix their estates to house people and not rats and cockroaches then and only then would I even think of this place as anything other then a waste of time and a hazard to all around it. Honestly I do not blame the organization themselves, I dont think they actually know how some of their estates are run to the ground and the kind of people theyve let into their program. None the less till it has been dealt with, I would stay away from this place completely unless you absolutely despise being homeless.
Mustard seed is a pretty cute little store. Just like any resale store, it can be a hit or a miss. I always appreciate the tiered pricing system (the longer an item remains in the store, the price goes lower). It has a decent array of actual vintage clothing/jewelry/trinkets/furniture, unlike some vintage resale which is second hand ikea furniture.
5years ago I was staying with a friend that was going through an eviction. I had just gotten out of jail 2months prior. Im a recovering addict. I had less than 24hours before I was going to be back out on the streets. I had called at least 50 different organizations in and around Houston. The biggest problem I was facing was the fact that I was on psych medication. No one that I spoke with was willing to take me in while on the meds until I interviewed with Magnificat Houses Inc. They have been such a Godsend to me and my family. Ive built trust back with my family and friends as well as employers. I have moved on from Magnificat Houses Inc. and am now employed and live in my own place. I know without a shadow of doubt I would not have made it, still clean and sober, if it werent for the help and stability Ive received from Magnificat Houses Inc. Thank yall!!
They would not house my veteran friend it was nothing like the wonderful website that they have. He did not have income at that moment so they said no unless he had $400.00 dollars. I do not know what to think they should say Not all people get in-some income is required on the website or something that is true.
If I could give this a 0 I would. They totally Discrimanated against me on my disability. I have a paper registered Animal due to my disability. They say they allow ADA/ESA due to ones own disability no matter what! But they decided to Discriminate and Break the Texas/Gov Federal Housing Commesstion n Disability Acts! I am going up with this situation! I HV started the reporting process already! Justice will be served?
Yall saved my life. I came through the jail diversion program back in October. I started a construction job and Im taking care of myself largely because of the Clubhouse. If you tell the Sisters you are hungry, they will feed you. I still come back to volunteer and enjoy spending time during my lunchbreak. God bless the St. Joseph House and Magnificat Houses. For real!
Being at Magnificat means the world to me. I was literally lifted off the street. I didnt know that there was a place like MHI I could go to. I had no concern about my own wellbeing, but when I spoke to the people at Loaves and Fishes, they told me about Magnificats housing program. Not only was I given a place to live, but I was given a purpose. I am valued and I have a sense of purpose. I have been nurtured and my self-esteem has returned.
Great little hide away with unique items compared to some other more upscale places items are priced reasonably and they do decrease in price the longer they stay on the floor. Nice environment, nicer staff and money goes to a worthy cause...whats not to like
I agree with the previous reviewer. Its a hit & miss with Mustard Seed. The longer the item, the lower the price. Its a great place to find kitchenware and unique items for your home...
Its not a problem of getting to a destination but the way the maps will start calling out random streets and turns that have nothing to do with the trip or directions the map is showing you. Also takes forever sometimes to reroute or find my location. This only started after I switched to Cricket.
Ive got a physical disability and im waiting on an organ transplant. As a Catholic, ive never asked the church for anything, but when i needed them for 14 days until i can go back to the hospital, i got the 3 day program and rejected for more- even offering to pay rent and work for them.
The pics and look around need to be updated. 1/28/2020 metered parking. Some homeless people have cars. $11 a day to park on the street. No other parking available. First thing that happened to me. Was an addict came up to bum a cigarette. I hooked him up even though i spent my last dollar on metered parking and didn’t have many cigarettes left. Then i asked if this was the shelter. He said yeah, but the office is a little further up. Check-in is at 11 but you have to have to put your name on the list. It was 0830 and i only had parking until 0930 and was told on the phone check-in was from 0800-1130..
Thank all the Nuns and Ms. Erika for all their hospitality and the young ladys with Cricket and the guys at the Bethany house on 1304 Fairview sincerely, FBI Agent Artis Davis
As in all resale stores it is hit or miss, but this little store is very nice and I like to stop by every now and then and even if I am not lucky it is a pleasant visit.
Special thanks to erika,& all the nuns. Anyone in this location will help you with all your questions & will do their best with what they have and what they offer.
Some items are a bit pricey but always fun to visit with all of the revolving items. Definitely have to do it regularly
Magnificat has been my home and my family. Im moving forward, but I couldnt have done it without the support, trust, and belief in me that they have shown and given me over the past year and a half.
I so admire what is bring done here. Magnificat Houses not only takes in people who are homeless and gives them shelter, they also try to get them out of the homeless cycle with opportunities to develop skills and talents and encouraging them to help others.
I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. My review is Karma at its best. Those that are running the operation are not educated enough to do so. Lack of professional etiquette.

The positive reviews are so fake. This place is a waste of time.
I was going to stay here but my friend said she eneded up in a worst situation than before and shes still homeless.
Great place for good bargaining and meeting people of the community.
Pretty well organized. Willing to make a deal.
