My husband and I used Fairway Mortgage to finance the purchase of our first home. Although we do not have other experiences to compare to, I was very happy with the service and expediency of the loan process through Fairway. James actually showed up to the closing meeting at the title company which I really appreciated. There were some clerical type errors in the closing documents that were able to be immediately fixed since he was there in person, instead of having to wait to fax back and forth if we had gone with a bigger bank lender. They were also able to fund the loan in a very quick turnaround time (less than 45 days) without any delays. The loan has since been transferred to another servicer, but I think that is pretty typical and not a big deal to us since the important part was all of the upfront leg work. Thanks Fairway!
James (Jim) Ward is a true professional at what he does. I have not met a harder working mortgage broker to date. Jim was able to find a difficult loan for me (one traditional banks were not able to assist with as I am currently working and living overseas). I was ready to close with time to spare thanks to his efforts and the terms of my loan were better than most lenders were advertising. I was originally pre-approved for a loan through a bank, and was well into the mortgage application process when they told me that I would not be approved for a loan because of something that came up on my credit report. Apparently they missed it through the pre-qualification process. I was less then 3 weeks out from my closing date and thought I would have to back out. I made a phone call to Fairway Mortgage Company, after reading reviews online, to see if they could help. James Ward immediately researched, found a way to approve me for a loan, and was extremely personable yet professional. He gave me sound financial advice and put me at ease. Apologies for this long story but I hope everyone can learn from my mistake. At the start of the closing process for our home I engaged with one of the big banks (rhymes with Mace) to whom I had my existing accounts for my mortgage application. It made sense to me to have my mortgage accounts consolidated with my other banking accounts. I had a meeting with the mortgage officer and received pre-approvals pretty quickly and once we were in closing got the mortgage application underway. This would be the start of the nightmare. I continually sought from and received assurances from the officer that we would meet each of the closing deadlines. I was told there was no risks in my application and everything should go through. I also received a call from the loan processor who is in a different team/department from the officer saying all is well. On the last day of my financing grace period which was a Sunday, my mortgage officer sends me an email saying there is one detail that is holding up the final approval. It related to a minor condition on the home. And told me they needed to extend the financing period on the closing contract. RIDICULOUS. I asked why I hadnt been informed of this before, he said its in special review and out of his hands. I asked for a timeline to when we could get this resolved and was told 1 week the review should be completed and a decision should be made. I asked for daily updates and received nothing from the officer. I had to chase him to understand where things were at. 1 week later and still no decision. I was repeatedly told it was out of the officers hands and its the special review teams fault for taking so long. Suffice to say the whole blame game left me in a dire situation. How long does it take to review a simple condition? I had 2 weeks left to close and was starting to stress. I called the officer and he decided not to be in office that day. I called officers manager and surprise surprise only got through to his voicemail. I could not even reach the mortgage processor even though I left numerous messages to call me back urgently. I then made the decision to cancel my mortgage application and wrote a very frustrated email to cancel due to the lack of information and communication both between their departments and with me. After I sent that email, I finally received an email from officers manager saying they couldnt approve the mortgage.Less than 2 weeks to closing, I immediately jumped on Yelp and looked for highly rated mortgage company and Fairway came up on top. I read the reviews and was comforted to know many folks loved Fairway. I contacted them immediately to see what options I had with my limited time. I first talked to Maya who walked me through the preliminaries, then was contacted by James to go through everything in detail. They told me upfront they were confident to meet the closing date (actually a few days before) but everything needed to be in order on my side e.g. documentation etc. and they would put their entire team to work on my application. What can I say? After the initial phone call right up until the approval and closing, everything was absolutely smooth. Communications from James and his team were absolutely fantastic. Even though I was stressed, they were always calm and understanding and walked me through everything step by step. They followed up when they said they would and even sent me reminders when I wasnt prompt on my side. Everything was modern and done through their easy to use web portal with electronic signatures. James even turned up to my closing appointment to make sure everything was completed smoothly. Talk about absolute top tier customer service. I cannot speak highly enough of the Fairway team. Please dont be a dumb sheep like me and put yourself through the pain of dealing with the big banks. Go with Fairway and you will get the best service available. The kicker is that a few days before closing, the processor from the big bank called me to ask if everything was going well. Ive closed all my accounts with the big bank.

James and Maya,Short version: Although I did not have the opportunity to work with you guys on this mortgage, thats something I personally regret deeply. The personal attention I got over the past couple of days was absolutely refreshing, nothing like my experience with my current lender (a big bank, whats new). With about one days worth of James help (doing research, reaching out to underwriters, etc.), three phone calls and several emails in the span of about 24 hours, we came to the conclusion that were so far into the process now and already committed too much (both financially and time-wise) to the current lender that it doesnt make sense to make the switch now especially because its still supposedly going fine, but if this close doesnt go through Im definitely calling Fairway first for the next house that we consider.
I applied for a mortgage with the biggest bank in the US they gave me all kind of headache send the documents many many times and spent more than 30 days and I couldnt do the closing. Due to circumstances with my wife from a previous marriage and some bad assumptions on my part (namely no debt was a good thing--seems they want a track record of having debt and making payments), I didnt think I would be able to get a loan approved. James worked with me and found a solution so we were able to get the loan we needed. He was able to find an old debt I had paid off and ways to come up with secondary ways to show I paid my debt so that I would qualify for a loan. We had our homes built by Gehan and because of the many incentives that comes associated if we choose the lender that the builder prefers, it was hard for us to switch to any lender we liked. We didn’t understand that many of the “so-called” free benefits incentives were tied into the mortgage interest rate they were proposing (so basically its not really free, just a marketing strategy). James Ward took his time (unpaid) to explain to us many things and to bargain down the price so that Advisa could work a reasonable interest rate for us. At the end, James could have said, “hey guys, don’t go with advisa, come with me” but as he analyzed the paper he saw that they reduced it to a price that would be more affordable to us and he told us it would be more beneficial for us to go with Advisa at that time. So to sum it all up, if you are looking for a mortgage lender, don’t go too far. Hire James Ward and save yourself headaches. All of my expectations were exceeded. Jim was always available to discuss the loan process and answer any questions I had regarding rates, costs, closing, et cetera. They underwrite in-house which makes things much more streamlined. As promised, we closed on time - actually three days early - and the money was wired to the title company the day before. He showed up at closing and the funds were immediately released upon signing of all the documents; this easily shaved an hour off the closing time. Ill recommend Jim to everyone and will absolutely be using him again in the future.

I wanted to buy a house and I went with James Ward because he was highly recommended by my agent, unfortunately my experience with him and his team was extremely unpleasant, he disclosed all my loan information to the seller agent and my agent, and the interesting part he never shared these information with me about my loan..!!!He never returned my phone calls or answered my emails, the only time he did when i informed my agent about the lack of communication, then she would call him and then he responded

I contacted them about purchasing my first house and they were snooty and pretentious. I was given a lesson over the phone about seasoned money and the asked how do you expect to buy a house with no money? Well, I borrowed some money from my 401k and had a little gifted to me and was closing on my house a few months later with a different mortgage company. All it would have taken was 5 minutes of talking to me about my situation instead of judging me and they would have had a sale. I dont recommend these people to anyone.
I spoke with James and he asked me to submit an application online which I did. I called him 3 times and sent a few emails so I can send him the required documents. He never responded to any of my emails nor returned any of my calls. I was upset at first but glad in the end he didn’t contact me back because it showed me how he works as a mortgage lender so that’s a huge red flag.My fiancé and I were approved with a major bank for our home loan with a low interest rate. So thank you!

I had a bad luck dealing with this company, they have miscalculated the closing amount, and I am very disappointed on closing, I called the rep. Mr.___ but he said the people from office made a mistake, and they never updated me on the price change. But they said they sent me a email, but I never received it. so I made a cashier check for less amount. And also they have sold my mortgage to different company. not even a month OR FIRST PAYMENT. so what makes so important to review all the results before choosing the mortgage company, which is not going to be your mortgage company not even a month. just for the information brothers and sisters. god only can bless us from this mechanized world. I have learned a lesson just take your time and go with the banks which is stable on the market. And we believe the banks are not going to sell your mortgage to the different mortgage company which have disappointed customers. (I found from review)
